You can even use the settler (pioneer) to build rails across the ocean. (There's also another bug where, if you build a city where Brisbane Australia is, you'll see 3 wierd tiles. Send a plane on an auto goto past that link, and it supposedly goes beserk, according to a decade old post I read on a local DOS BBS somewhere).
