Defense of Khazad Dum and our Nation

Since the Persians (C3B) are likely to want revenge upon us for the tribute that has been enacted upon them due to the treachery of one of their own members, I suspect that they will be planning an invasion of their own. They can not attack us for a 20-turn period beginning when they first started the 18gpt payment.

I suspect that on the turn just before that ends, we will see a stack of Immortals violate our territory. The most likely scenario is for this stack to show up a Khazad Dum.

If we are to hold that city, it will need walls, a barracks and as many pikemen (assuming we get Feudalism) and catapults as we can afford.

I am not suggesting a change to the City of God invasion...far from it, I am suggesting an ammendment to it. We want to slow down C3B long enough at Khazad Dum in order for our attack to succeed.

At the moment, the city is building a settler, I recommend that this be changed.

The proposed improvements are for the following reasons: walls: defensive bonus. Barracks: improve spearmen when we get Feudalism, heal troops faster.
 
I agree 100 %, this is a bottleneck, good to defend, but terrible to attack from. Plus, it is our own little Panama Canal to switch coasts.
 
I do agree completely. The problem is that the city is not productive. Moreover, it can barely surive on its own. And has many tiles not improved and does not have access to fresh water. Whatever we build there will be probably cash-rushed. And the city itself should produce workers or settlers. It might be reasonable to finish the settler there and then partially build barracks and partially cash-rush them. Walls are relatively inexpensive improvement with no actual use to the city development and can be cash-rushed if there would be a need to defend the city. I hope we can spot the approaching troops and would be able to spare a few gold coins to rush walls there. But I'm both hands up for the barracks. The more of barracks we have, the better our military is.
 
It is true that it is not that productive, but it is still very important. C3B will attack by land, due to their power immortals, and we must deny them this as much as we can. If we can hold the canal city, Fanatica shall stand.
 
I think it might be more prudent to switch to other production now since the city can barely produce anything. It might be useful to garrison the place so that we can get the happiness up and get more spt out of it as well...
 
also, if we settle beyond Khazad, corruption would kill that city as well, with immortals swarming the new indefensible city. We need to develop Khazad in detail, and avoid the DMZ with settlers. We are already hard pressed as it is.

Please change to city walls and barracks, right away, in that order. :)
 
LOL, with "order" I meant sequence. I wrote in that order, not "this is a direct order"-
I think he read it as an order, but it was just a proposed sequence.
We are here to come up with ideas, right ?

I think the walls, barracks plan is a good Idea. It would be a good "order" or sequence to follow. We must hold that city at all costs.
 
If we want to lure the Immortals down to Khazad-Dum, I suggest we wait with building the border-city till a few turns before the attack.
 
Cheetah, I agree, but we should poll building the settler changed to barracks in Khazad Doom so we can really prepare that city. Additionally, the border city is the bait, Khazad Doom not, we need to hold Khazad Doom.

Are we going to build barracks and then city walls in Khazad Dum after the settler, or do we need to poll it? I need an answer here, since many seem to care about that citys infrastructure.
