Defensive pacts

Hi everyone!

I was playing fall from heaven for my third time and really started to enjoy the mod. Im playing svartalfer and its quite enjoyable, although ofcourse difficult. If I didnt admit that many of the modders would probably be disappointed, considering the changes to the ai, the many features and so on...

However I cant seem to find how to make defensive pacts. The ai makes a lot of them, even worse, they make outright alliances between different races which doesnt even have the same alignment.

Since my svartalfer likes the ljusalfer(After all they are gorgeous, there are a lot of time to conguer them, after dating them and elves are patient...) I wanted a defensive pact with them. However no defensive pact would ever appear in the diplomatic window. I have gone far in the tech tree as far as iron working, but still nothing of a sort ever appears. Meanwhile the ai is getting bigger and bigger alliances and no one ever asks me for an alliance.

I try to maintain at least some good plus points with a lot of civilizations, since haveing a war with all of them isnt good for your health, regardless of your amount of longbowarchers .

Whatever happened to the defensive pacts and alliances and why is it that only the ai can do them?

And why doesnt any civilization want to attack your enemies, even if they are mortal enemies to the civilization themselves?
The last question isnt that important, it might be just me haveing problems with my friendcivilisation who probably hates war anyways.

Please help anyone, this issue is killing my game.

Its either Honor of Feudalism.

Vassal States and Permanent Alliances are allowed via Feudalism, although I think defensive pacts are still Honor prereq'ed.

Tasunke is correct. Feudalism allows Vassal States and Permanent Alliances while Honor allows Defensive Pacts. Of course, Permanent Alliances are awfully hard to get without Honor too, as you need either a defensive pact or a common war to last, what, about 50 turns before an AI will consider an alliance.

In my modmod Feudalism allows Vassal States, Defensive Pacts, and Permanent Alliances, while Honor is an alternate prereq for Defensive Pacts and Permanent Alliances.

Thanks for the answers!

Indeed defensive pacts are activated by the technology honor. It says so when you research it. Now I have researched it. I hadn´t researched it before, but now I have. I still can't make any defensive pacts though. Although I admit only trying to do it with the ljusalfer, mainly because they are the only ones who seem to like me.

I´m not sure if they like me though, I liberated a city for them, I have the same religion, I sit on the council with them and so on and so on. I´ve got a bunch of pluses, and only two minuses. Considering this, makeing a defensive pact with the ljusalfar should be possible I guess, yet it doesnt appear in the trade window. Perhaps it shouldn´t appear in the trade window unless you can select it and the civilization likes you enough.

Anyways I´ve realised that this might not be the case at all. It seems that I was wrong concerning all the former alliances of the ai. They were not alliances at all, instead they were vassals to another kingdom. Once they rebelled, those "alliances" were dissolved.

Anyways there seems not to be any diplomatic option for alliances in fall from heaven, yet I can´t find information about it anywhere.

Defensive pacts are only possible between civs that are not at war. If either of you is at war then the option won't even show up. This is similar to the way that the option for Open Borders is does not appear in negotiations between warring civs - such a thing would never be possible, and so displaying it would be nonsensical and confusing.

It is important that the option for a defensive pact be shown whenever it is possible, even if it is not currently available (such as in negotiations between civs at peace but with poor relations). If it were not shown, then players would come to the forums asking why the option for the pact is not available. Showing the unavailable option (redded out) allows the player to mouse over the option and see the AI's 'reason' for not allowing the defensive pact, which indicates to the player that the inability to make the pact is due to AI attitude and not a bug or research deficiency, which in turn makes it unnecessary for them to seek external assistance to understand the situation.

Alliances are disabled by default. If you want to enable alliances in the games you play, you must turn on the appropriate game option when you create the game.

Thanks for the answer emptyness.
I also thank everyone else who has been kind enough to answer. Now I'm going to play as the Sheaim. This Armageddon buisness seems interesting. :crazyeye:

From what I understand in a different thread, the Ljos and Svart-alfar inevitably go to war after a certain point. It's coded to happen somewhere in Python. Check out "Svartalfar vs Ljosalfar" (I think that's the thread name or something like it) in there someone has posted the portion of code that actually makes this happen.
