Hi folks,

this is my first post in the forum... first of all thanks to all the contributors to the site and the forum! Due to all the help here I got from chieftain to demigod level... but now it gets tricky on deity. I play the Celts on a standard continents map. I was able to grab some nice territory and continue to gain land in a war against Carthage. It's pretty much sure that it would be possible to control the entire continent (turns out there are 2 big ones on the map), which would be about 40% overall territory. BUT it's 610 AD now and I entered the middle ages just some turns ago, while the AIs on the other continent just got into the industrial age or are at least close. I am also far behind in culture and trades are difficult, because my rep from the war against the Zulus (already out of the game) and now Carthage took some hits.

So, should I continue the conquest of my continent, hoping to get to the other continent later with Artillery/Cav/Inf for a domination win? I feel I don't have any other choice... but I fear it might be too late already because the AI will probably launch the spaceship or cross the 100k limit earlier. The pretty even 4 civs on the other continent give me some hope though, they will weaken themselves in fights for sure... if there would be only one dominant AI it would be a lost cause perhaps, no matter what I'd do...
BTW, in the Demigod game that I won with domination I was able to capture the GL, so I had no serious tech problem. In lower levels I kept pace with self research and some trades, but deity is really hard...

I attached a small minimap, I am the light blue civ on the western continent.

I highly recommend capturing the GL again. Also, make sure to get the civs on the other continent into war with one another asap. That slows the tech pace down tremendously. If one of them is a lot stronger than the others, then have the other three gang on the one, otherwise, 2 vs. 2. It takes shrewd diplomacy and a little luck, but it is possible. They also go straight for each others resources so your extra ones become more valuable.

Try to finish off your continent before attacking the other one. The other continent won't be able to do much to you until you actually land your troops on their island. Hopefully you will be in the IA by that point (and they not in the Modern Era).

Good luck! Its not over yet!

BTW,

Welcome to the Forum!!!!

Capturing the GL is no option right now, it's deep in the Aztec's (green on the map) territory.

All you need to prevent a culture loss is to not have a KAI. I learned the hard way on what I thought was going to be my first contiental Sid win. I was well on my way when the big dog won by culture.

This occurs when you and it eliminate all the other civs or nearly do it. So you want to see at least two AI's with some what equal culture. As long as one cannot double the other, you get to keep playing.

It is not that I did not know that, but I was not use to taking note of the culture scores. Now when playing Deity or Sid, I keep an eye on the numbers.

Grab the GL at the first opportunity. Finish off your continent. Sign ROP with Aztecs and grab it that way. Who cares about rep if you are caught up in tech in the IA?

Try to get the other civs at war asap though. Try to keep things balanced though. You don't want a KAI like vmxa said. Get peace with the weaker civs and send them aid to stall the stronger ones.

You want to be careful about getting weak civs to join fights against strong civs at this level. It can be a good plan, but you need to make a judgement. Otherwise the strong one will kill the weak and you will be worse off.

The Ai will often send out units to attack that are not good attackers and weaken the city. I seen them lose a city they would have held if thy keep those one or two units home.

KAI?

Been through a few gaming communities over the years, but this place definitely beats all the others as far as acronyms go. :crazyeye:

Killer Artificial Intelligence. Actually I'm not sure. I just guess at half the acronyms here. :crazyeye:

You got it, Killer AI. Basically just one that is very strong and has probably gobbled any civs on its land. You see this in contient games where the human is not able to do much to slow it down.

Maybe by the time you find the other contient it is already too late. One has taken large chunks of land.
