Hello, I'm normally playing on Standard, Quick if doing MP with friends (which is very rare for me), online seemed always to fast for a Civ Game to me.

My question is, is there any information/experience about how Game Speed affects difficulty? I assumed it would be harder on quicker speeds since movement doesn't scale and your advanced-unit windows are smaller. But I watched a quick Deity game from another player and it somehow seemed easier.

Chop yield is the same for online, quick, standard( these are the speed setup I tested), I guess same hold true for slower speed.
The main difference comes with great people. Required points halved, production cost for project halved, resulting 1/4 production for great people in online speed.

In my experience, the faster the speed, the higher the difficulty. AI snowballs really hard, while you get bogged down with barbarians and possible early DoWs. I never had AIs getting double and triple times my score on standard speed.

This is how the majority of my online speed deity games look like, and most of the time, there is no avoiding it.
I've beaten that particular one because I got all that continent to myself, but I quit most of them by turn 50ish.

In korean community, people think the faster speed is the easier. While AI snowballs with initial techs and units, you can't do anything but waiting techs and production, because of low chop yield. In onliine speed, one chop worth a builder so builder starting is really worth to try. you will have 5 chops(after a chop for 2nd builder) which can be 5 military or anything you want. Plus barbs spam rates are the same over speed, so you need to face the same number of barbs with fewer units.

I always play at marathon speed. I like to appreciate and suffer from technological poverty. In my modest opinion, this gives truthfulness and honesty to the game. The warrior who goes out to explore the world can not find tanks and planes when he returns...

I always have difficulty getting started... because AIs starts with more units and produce units faster...

The road that I always travel is:

1- First, you need to produce 3 slingers. No builders or scouts... only slingers. "The unknown is hostile and you should not try to meet him." :nono:

2- Use slingers to kill one barbarian warrior or scout. This opens the way for archery. "Together, the hyenas can kill the lion."

3- Forget the rest and go straight to archery. "The paths leading to God are curved and full of exits ... but you do not want to find God, you want to stay alive."

4- Save all your money to upgrade your slingers to archers. "Who keeps what does not serve, has when he needs."

5- In defense, your archers need to use the terrain. All units (except for cars and horsemen) can only cross two spaces of clear ground. Rivers, hills and woods cost 2 moves. Cross rivers, enter woods, climb hills. Always keep enemies 3 spaces away on clear ground (or one and a river/woods/hill). "Hitting and running, the little one defeats the big one." :crazyeye:

6- In the city's defense, rotate units within the city. "A third of the army fights, a third prays, a third rests."

7- Now you can defend your city (and most of the good villages has been found). Focus on builders and more archers. "Let the game begin." :king:

One more tip:

8- When you have 3 more archers, use with the initial warrior to loot and take the neighboring cities. "The fat pig knows where the owner hides the food." :D

(sorry for my bad english... i am using Google translate  )

I've been watching innocentius's daily deity challenge, and I kept getting killed using his strategy. He opens builder -> settler or builder -> monument, and then I realized he was on online speed. Once I changed to online, I found the starts to be much easier. Has anyone else found one speed easier than another?
