Hello Fellow Civ 6 Fans:

Should you allow delegates and be friendly with other civs. Allow them to bring gifts to you etc? What is your take on this when you meet new civs in the game etc?

In single player, there is really no downside to accepting delegates and inviting civs over when you meet them. You can also send some, which gives you more diplomatic visibility in the early game, but this costs you money. I usually accept all delegations and send some back, except to the first civ I meet, because it usually declares war soon anyway.
In multiplayer things can be a bit different. If you meet a civ a bit away from your capital, I don't invite them over, because I don't want to reveal my capital to them. And I don't send delegates in multiplayer at all - friendships and alliances, sure, but no delegates.

I always send and receive delegates. It costs gold to send, but you get it back if the other civs do their part and reciprocate. the +3 diplomatic points sent delegations give might delay a DOW, or earn a friend before they all can do an early rush at you at once.

Actually you should be careful about exchanging capital locations with warmonger civs in the early game. One time I invited Alexander The Great over after I met one of his scouts out in the field. He proceeded to make a beeline toward my capital with a huge army and declared war on me a few turns later.
