Are there any benefits to ACCEPTING a delegation from another civ? AFAIK, it will allow him to receive rumours about me, give him a certain level of acces to me. Why would I allow that? The less he knows about me, the better...

Obviously, there must be something in it for you too... So what is it? Does his attitude towards you become friendlier if you accept the delegation? Or is it just that you get 25 gold from him?

I believe positive diplo modifiers are what's in it for you, as well as allowing more kinds of deals? (Can't play the game yet) like open borders, and eventually friendships/alliance/joint wars/etc.

Depends who does it. Roosevelt is safe.
Anyone else and especially Russia, Norway, India, Egypt and Aztecs a big no no. And when you encounter them, start making armies. They will declare war on you quickly even if you are in an island, and they are half way the other side of the map.
