Did CIV4 work for you out of the box

Black terrain/broken leaderheads out of the box.

It works better now, but still doesn't render things like cows, horses, and pigs at all.

I said "Crashing game", but I should qualify that - it was only the worker bug, and it was only on Tilted Axis maps. Fixed totally with the patch.

It worked perfectly on the primary computer for me, with absolutely no problems, but on my other I had black terrian issues, and then with the patch I had that fixed, but then had anti-aliasing issue (ie giant bars of one color every so often). But if it works on one perfectly I'm happy.

However, the subset of players you refer to is MUCH smaller than CIVFANATICS.COM players. It's actually people that come to civfanatics, read the post, and voted in the poll. That's a very much smaller subset than "everyone on the forums".

Forum polls are simply NEVER accurate, as it's never a large enough sample of the game-playing population that you can extrapolate the results for everyone.

Mine worked 'out of the box', but it works even better since I upgraded my video card driver and instralled the 1.09 patch.

Right out of the box, the Wonder Movies didn't work at all. After the patch, the graphics movies don't really run well, very choppy. Yes, my video card and video driver are supposedly in spec.

Also remember the fact that you're more likely to vote in the poll if you've had problems. If Civ 4 was working fine for you from the beginning, why would you bother to vote that way in this poll? It takes work. You could be playing Civ 4 in that time.

My computer is well above minimum specs, yet I have to play with the movies turned off, graphics on medium and maps no bigger than large. But on the above settings I can play from beginning to end with almost no delays!!

Well i got my new pc, and though it worked fine out of the box, when i put the 1.09 patch or whatever it was (not most recent) It crashed for no reason whatsoever. Oh well! Fine now withy the new patch (hopefully)

Demo worked OK except for the wonders movies. Then i got the full game (on DVD) and all was ok. Learned about probs only here on the forum. Skipped 1.09 (new game) and installed 1.52. All is well except a slight slowdown on the world map. Specs are really, REALLY BS!! Check this out:

-Pentium IV 2.53
-GF4 Ti-4200 128MB!!
-1GB RAM @ 266!!
VidCard drivers updated to the most recent update i could find (a laugh, last detonators for my card are from 2003 or so lol)

-I guess i should be about kissing some butts at Firaxis/devs house.

Oh, Pirates!! worked out of the box too!!

I had no issues with the game. I even played a full game before i downloaded the lastest patch (1.52)
