Playing large highlands...has this happened to anyone else?

You're referring to every civ being crammed into 1/4 of the map, correct?

No, this has never happened to me. You say this is after you got satellites? That is weird. Did you notice this just after you got the tech or before?

just after I got the tech, because it revealed the entire map. Prior to researching it either believed I has discovered the majority of the world or that there were some civs I had yet to meet.

Some screwed up spawn spots you go there. It must be a bug or a glitch. I don't think this has happened on highlands although I never finished a highland game, so I can't tell for sure.

I met this in early versions of the game and I believe the highlands script was still not patched. The problem is what the script could create unpassable terrains, but when it places major civs, it checks for them to be reachable. That's how this happens.

No such checks for city-states though, so you have to use helicopters to meet them.
