Diffence betwem CivII. CivII Gold and ToT?

I think it's just a general distaste for ToT. :p
Actually Cheiftess was probably doing what she thought was right without realizing that the site has a copy of the MGE no-cd crack in the Civ2 downloads section.

…and your "patches". Whatever the case, CFC needs to get its site policy sorted. At Apolyton, Mercator has people dragged for posting links to your site. :mischief: I'm not quite sure about their policy towards game cracks, though. Technically, they're not breaches of copyright, but they do provide a mechanism to bypass copyright protection – game crack sites seem to get away with putting disclaimers all over the place. I use No-CD cracks on just about all of my games for two reasons: 1. I hate CD-swapping and 2. With continual CD-swapping, there's an increased likelihood of damaged disks.

Of course there is no consistency. So what?
Today any reasonably competent netsurfer can find a patch after a few minutes of searching. You dont even have to go to the seedier sites.

Also I would like to point out that Civfanatics isnt the only gamesite on the net.

An excellent game site is MegaGames (a .COM site) that have tons of *LEGAL* downloads (demos'n stuff) but also "trainers" and cheats and all sorts of other ;) reasources to all sorts of games. If you have *ANY* problems, gamewise or playwise check it out.

So your logic is… CFC should have a random policy towards piracy and copyright laws because you can access illegal material on the Internet anyway?

That site is also where I get most of my game cracks, but if my post was edited by the moderators, I don't see why yours containing the name of that site shouldn't be either.

Not really. I am just observing that some people are on a power trip. It must be great to be able to decide what others get to say/write. We cant replace them. You dont get elected to be moderator. So we can vote with our feet.. erh I mean our pointers.. [click] [click] and thats that. :mischief:

First: I have not posted a link, I just mentioned the name of another site (MegaGames), you will have to do a search to find it.

Second: MagaGames is not a "warez"-site anymore than Civfanatics. Its a gamersite, where some (a small fraction of) DL:s might, at worst be questionable, just like Civfanatics.

Third: The moderators are inconsistent. You pointed it out for yourself.
Just check out this thread: Civilization Fanatics' Forums > COLOSSEUM > Humor & Jokes > Political Cartoons , I doubt very much that the people posting those cartoons are the ones owning the copyright to the images. Perhaps a chance for someone to start thread deletes ? ;)

Forth: Dont take life to seriously. You wont get out of it alive. :D

Well, gee, I wonder what happens if I type the name of the site in Google? It's as good as a link.

The site contains game cracks. Game cracks are a grey area because they provide a means to defeat copyright protection. CFC has an ambiguous policy towards game cracks. That is my main point. You seem to think this doesn't matter. Do the moderators flip a coin every time someone posts a crack or an "upgrade patch"? I guess I got unlucky.

The moderators are inconsistent on this issue, but I don't think you can blame them. You have on one hand a policy that states that uploading copyright material is not allowed and on the other hand, the site hosts game cracks and illegal software in its download section.

YEAH. It is. *And* it is *not* a link. Theres a whole proffesion making a good living on these kind of distinctions. :)

So does CivFanatics. Some [other] sites with similar policies [as CivFanatics] might very well whack me for linking here [to CivFanatics].

Ideed they have and no I dont think it matters enough to fret about it.

Propably. Its only a question of time before *my* coin comes wrong side up and they whack me for some infraction. :) Or they might read my previous post and flip that coin and tomorrow I find my post edited and a warning in my mail. :mischief:

The foras contain copyrighted material too (see the link in my previous post).

So what to do? Honestly: I dont know.
