Diplomatic Dispute?

I started out a game recently against the Zulu, the Indians, the Romans, the French, and the Egyptians playing as the Greeks and wiped out everyone but the French. I have control of a whole continent the happens to have a large amount of the natural resources and the only sources of rubber, oil and aluminum. However, the french made a landing and set up a city right in the middle of a tundra that I didn't want to put a city in and took the only source of aluminum. Which I need. Now my production of Modern Armor and ICBMs has stopped, and they won't trade the stuff to me. I was wondering if there's any way of getting that aluminum without a direct invasion, because althought I have superior technolgy, numbers, and firepower, I don't want to destroy them because I like to have at least one long-term friendship in the game and it would be pointless to play by myself.

Create a trade route to their capital (either by Airports, Harbours, or roads), and then just trade 'em for it in the diplo screen. They will never accept a trade if that is their only source, though.

As he stated out it seems to be the only source on the map.

Recognizing that, i would have build a city on that tile or even next to it at once.

But now, with the AI having it IMO you have no other choice than this one: blood for aluminium..... ;o)

If that aluminum is France's only source, they will never trade it. The only peaceful way to get it would be to culture flip the city. Build cities very close to french city and rush culture buildings there. You have better chances of flipping it if your civ has more culture than the french, and if the city is closer to your capital than theirs.

If you want land to be yours, you need to get it inside your cultural boundaries. Colonies don't count.

Ah.... i got another peacefull solution to that problem (only working if the aluminium is on a free tile):

Build a city right next to the wanted tile. And for now rush the culture in that city quick. So if you have more culture you press their borders back and the aluminium will be yours...
