Emperor. Standard map. Never started a war. Got into the modern age with a score around 6k. No research. Milked the game a little. Was at war with the next closest civ, had RoP with 3 of 4 other civs, trading lux to them for a pittance, alliances with 2 and allowed UN vote and lost. I was the tech leader. What's my problem? The other civs had all declared on me at one point or another and I whooped their posteriors (razed lots of their cities). should I have fed them more lux or should have I not razed? I've never been able to win a diplo victory. help. Am I just an idiot?

Sign everyone into a military alliance against your UN vote opponent. That should work. That, and not killing everyone.

The razing of cities hurts your rep. Since you razed lots of their cities, they probably aren't too fond of you ;)

okay, so I have a problem.

BTW - your new avatar is my favorite one to date :goodjob: Do you have mistfit on retainer? :)
Huh? I made this one myself... (with no help from a certain poster...)

@ tomoyo - you make your own avatars? :worship: I really do try to dogpile all the AI into wars with the number 2 civ. I think my warring gets me in trouble.

@ superbeav - please provide your parts list and I'd be happy to send them to you so you could be complete  :goodjob:

Are you sure the civ you were fighting was also your rival in voting?

I've never been able to win a diplo victory.
Short memory?
You've a DemiGod Diplomatic victory.

Razzing hurts your attitude, not your rep. :)

Check your F4. If over half the civs, not counting your closest rival, like you then take the vote. Otherwise don't.

I've made my own :D

MA's and MPP's do two tricks at once: Imporve attitude towards you and decreases attitue towards you opponent (they're at war => furious). Then you win. Do it with everyone.

Yeah, most of them. This one took a bit of effort because I had to remove some text in the upper-right hand corner without taking away the hexagons.

Remember, an AI will vote for you if it likes you better than the other civ and is polite or better towards you.

Gift. Gift. Gift.

Have to improve those attittudes. I will gift maps every turn that the poor AI is broke...especially important to gift big a few turns before the vote.

BamSpeedy has an article in the WA about this (especially useful, read the entire thread for tips on effective gifting):

Ivana's dip victory thread is also quite instructive:

Finally, satchel also has tips on Diplo victories:
