Hello,
I've tried to search these threads and follow the advice below but cannot seem to figure out how to get a multiplayer game started on my home network between my personal computers - direct IP, no internet. I'm not at all that savvy on this port and firewall stuff but have enjoyed Civ 3 for years and would now like to introduce my son to the game but cannot figure out how to make the connections work.
I have opened the three ports for both TCP/UDP on my software firewall (Road Runner EZ Firewall) for both computers. I have a NetGear router and have "opened" the same three ports (13139, 6500, 2302) for the host computer. The term on the router says "port forwarding". When I try to open port 2302 on the other computer I get a "port conflict with other service" error message.
Inside the PTW game, when I go to the multiplayer, lan, screen and put in the IP address of the host computer I get this error message:
"Failed to connect to multiplayer game. If you are behind a firewall, consult the readme for information about ports that need to be opened. Additionally, be sure the host is not behind a firewall."
This is information I cut from the first earlier threads. I have version 1.27f of PTW and 1.29f of Civ3.
Thanks,
Randy

Playing a Direct IP game
To Join a game: You must know the IP adress of the host, and the following port must be opened
* 2302 (DirectPlay - UDP)
To Host a game: The following ports must be opened and your ISP and Firewall must allow you to act as server on these ports.
* 13139 (Custom UDP Pings)
* 6500 (Query Port)
* 2302 (DirectPlay - UDP)
Port 80 has been removed from the lists, as it seems it is unecessary after all. It has also been removed from the PtW readme.
Port 6515 has also been removed, as 2302 is now being used for DirectPlay.
