Direct2Drive Customers can't install the 1.09 patch.

I purchased and downloaded Civilization IV from Direct2Drive. I am able to download the 1.09 patch as prompted to do so in-game, but it does not allow me to install it. It seems to be only meant for the boxed retail version of the game.

Will Direct2Drive be releasing a 1.09 patch for us soon? We cannot log into the multiplayer aspect of the game and play with everyone else until our version (Direct2Drive) of the game has a patch.

Electronic distributions like this often contain proprietary 'software wrappers'. As you correctly guessed, you will have to wait for a seperate patch, which usually trails the retail patch by many weeks.

Although I don't know when or if Direct2Drive will release an appropriate patch, it wouldn't hurt to contact them directly?

Although it's convenient to d/l games like this, you should take into consideration that your tech support will be from Direct2Drive and not from Firaxis or 2K Games. In addition you can only install expansion packs purchased from Direct2Drive, as the retail versions (if any in the future) will not be compatible, so you'll be forced to make another Direct2Drive purchase. For me, this is more problem than it's worth, especially since you rarely if ever save much money on electronic versions.

Yep, I made the mistake and bought it from D2D. Because of all this with the patch, I'll never ever buy from any download site again.
