So, I bought Civilization 4 from Direct2Drive. As everyone is finding out now, the Direct2Drive version of the game will not allow Patch 1.09 to be installed. Therefore I cannot play multiplayer with their product.

So, I go to the mall and buy the same product from Gamestop. I install Patch 1.09 with no problem and start enjoying the game.

Since Direct2Drive's product does not allow me to patch and play, I asked them for a refund. They refused.

They are basically expecting me to wait around for weeks and weeks until they come out with their own compatible version of the patch while I sit on my ass with a product I can't use (multiplayer is the only reason I bought it).

They lost my future business and I encourage you to avoid using the service. You'll be stuck with unpatchable games for days, weeks, and probably months and be refused a refund.

Good to know. I was thinking about buying a game from it, but I guess I won't now.

Do you have a way to cancel your credit card order?

warpstorm has a decent idea there ... credit card bankers tend to err on the side of the consumer, so do a charge back ... 'fin!

As for D2D ... I would highly recommend that you email Firaxis and Take2 (the latter, probably), and let them know your problems and how it's going to influence your future buying decisions (and mine, incidentally). It's only through vocalizing your displeasure that we can ever have D2D either change it's ways or lose business, and that's what talks at the end of the day.
