Directx 11 or 9?

I'm a bit ignorant about these things, so I'd like to ask you how do I know if my graphic card is compatible with Directx 11 and what's better to run.
I mean, to obtain better graphic performances and a fast gameplay, what's more recommended to run? 9 or 11?

If you really want to "play smooth", I suggest DX 9. I only recomment DX 11 only in the super fast gaming computers, and with only an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650 (I use 5100), a good graphic performance is simply out of the question.

I play dx9 because playing dx11 causes random crashes (graphics card freezes and the game crashes) My hardware configuration is Win7 32bit, PIV 3.0HT, 3GB RAM, Nvidia8500GT.

Besides that I didn't noticed any difference in performance between dx9 and dx11 -- both modes are too slow.

Your hardware does not support DX11, that might be a part of the problem .

I run DX11 and have noticed no crashes or problems like that. Make sure your card is DX11 compliant.
