I get this error during the start of the install. I am able to download and install DirectX9 from MS, but Civilization 4 will not recognize it.
Take2 tech support does not have a fix for this known issue. Thier version of DirectX9 on the CD is a custom version and that is why the ms version does not work.
Does anyone have a fix for this??
Here are postings on another forum from other owners....
i have downloaded the demo from 3 diffrent place and every version i try i get the same problem.
when i attempt to install the game, it says i must install directx9.c (which i already have anyway) and when i attempt to install it gives me a window saying a cabinet file can not be trusted and thats the end of installin, if anyone has a solution for this feel free to post it here or send it to me at e_finlayson@yahoo.com

Same issue here. I was going to purchase the game from direct2drive but after reading about the .dll issue with the d2d version and having this issue where I can't even play the game, I'm not sure if I will purchase the game at all now.

"can't even play the game" should be "can't even play the demo"
because of the directx 9 reason listed above.

Any word on this, I have the same problem? Does anyone have the directx files that seem to be missing from some of the demo downloads?

I can't install the demo either, it says that "setup has determined that you need to install directx Click next to begin"
I click the next button and asks me if I'm sure to cancel setup ?? I can't go anywhere from there.
Any suggestions?

I had hoped to give this demo a try after seeing it's the #1 PC gamespy.com game for 2005
I have the same directX 9 install problem with the demo.

I love it. Civilization IV is the top game of 2005 but yet it has a lot of bugs, lol.
