disable use of soundcard

Is it possible to disable the sound, so that I can use my soundcard for something else (like listening to real audio or mp3s), while playing? I'm using Civ 2 classic version.

First Realplayer sucks but whatever you want to use make sure its loaded and playing before starting Civ. Also, while playing, go to the civ 2 game options and uncheck the box next to music.
