Ok I really dnt know whats going on with this, when i try to play its says "Please insert the correct cd-rom, select ok and restart application"

I have the game disc in, however i have two disc drives [d] and [e] e is the dvd drive and the one i am using to play the game disc. Could it be that the game only reads the one primary drive [d]? thats just a guess...

Try disabling the other disk drive and seeing if that helps.

(Start - Settings - Control Panel - System, click Hardware tab, click Device Manager button, expand the DVD/CDROM tree node, find the non DVD drive, right click on it, select Disable, reboot)

Might work. Re-enabling it is preceisely the same but click Enable on the menu rather than disable.

Umm, did you try using the other disk? There was a misprint with the early releases that labeled the play disk wrong, and instead, you needed the install disk for both playing and installing

I have the same problem. I mounted the DVD using Alcohol 52% as drive E: (the HD is C: and the DVD is D:) and installed on to the HD. I then ran it, got the initial loading screen, and then the same Please Insert The Correct DVD-ROM, Select OK And Restart The Application message. I've installed patch 1.61 over a fresh install, and no joy.

Civ3 was quite happy to run under Alcohol 52%. Is this some new lame-ass security mechanism? If I install the original DVD, then it runs just fine. If I remount the DVD image as D: and have the drive as E:, the error continues - it seems to really not want to work with A52%.

Help! I just want to run it on my laptop without having to have the DVD spinning away gobbling up the juice from my battery.

Civ 4 has SafeDisk 4.6 which you need to go around to be able to play the game with a mounted image. And dont even think of getting a no-dvd patch, since you wont be getting any of the overlays at all if you use it.
