Discussion: The next war

Strider, that's exactly what I'm talking about, I feel if we go right into war again, we will be left too far behind, and will need to keep peace for centuries to recover, a status I doubt we can maintain, long enough to be able to recover that economic lead later.

I would love to agree with you as I'm a Cultural Builder myself. I would much rather do all the nice things and reap the fruits of my labor of war. But this is Emperor level. We are barely hanging on to our advantage. If we stop to bask in the sunlight, we will get burned by our nieghbors. All our efforts to become a cultured civilization at this point, will only get us buried in a cultural manner. I would much rather be un-cultured and alive and thriving, than cultured and dead, or beaten back to 3 cities.

It is a tough call whether to war with Japan or America next. I do like the idea of Takig the eastern Aztec cities and then heading for the Aztec city on the Forked River. We could keep pushing westward into Japan but to do so we must organize our military forces properly. We must keep the forces concentrated and positioned for the next war.

Cyc.... A defensive unit of the same level (Swordsman & spearman, Knight and pikeman) always has a better chance of winning than the attacker. If we attack Japan or America we will end up fighting both of them. We might have a good sized army, but we will not be able to defend ourselves from both sides for very long.
