Discussion: The next war

It appears im in the small minority in trying to stay peaceful instead of picking a fight with anyone who gets in our way

Peace would be great. Maybe in Term 4 or so...

Remember that although we may be in a war with Japan when they get their UU that does not mean we need to continue in a war with them once they do get it. The more Japan is reduced before they get those devastating samuraii, the less of those samuraii we will need to worry about.

As I've alluded to in the Palace Prebuild thread, if we lose the GL race, if the civ that get's the GL is a neighbor, it MIGHT be worth it to conquer them to get the GL, assuming we'd get it soon enough to be useful.

We need to check the current tech status with all of the civs in addition to gaining additional territory information.

If Japan is at the "bottom" of this continent, with no threats other than us and the soon to be neutered Aztecs, then she will come for us when she gets Samurai. The AI is always interested in triggering their GA.

This thread has been quiet for a day and a half. Just for the heck of it I'm going to repost. Maybe I can get someone to argue with me. BTW, would "checking the current tech status of all the civs" fall under F/A? Military? Science? Who should do this, Bill?

Repost:
I disagree, Fionn. We are about to be squeezed by our neighbors. The way I see the nation heading is totally backwards. We shouldn't be expanding to the west and picking a fight with the Yanks.

The Japanese border is now touching Tlatelolco in the SW. There are furs, cattle, wheat, and most importantly, a river. Japan is annoyed and aggressive.

We can expand peacefully to the East and SE with our new cities. They will flourish on the coast there. We need to build in that direction.

After we subdue the Aztecs, we need to make a hard right and follow the river NW, taking what we need and want. This means more military units, more Settlers, and more Workers. We need to build a road out of Tlaxcala in a Westernly direction towards the Japanese. We need to build cities along the river out of Azteca (acually the river originates in Japan), and follow the river to the fertile Japanese territory.

We don't really have time to take a breather. We just regroup and go. Expand to the SE, fight up river, then expand in that direction.

This topic needs to be discussed so we can plan a better "flow" of our Military. If we are going to attack up river, we will want our troops in that area when we are done with Monty, not scattered all over the place. We need to plan ahead.

we are heading backwards because we are focusing too much on the military and not on culture and expansion thru peaceful means. Lets wait till war is enevitable (sp?). I'd hate to jump from one war to another to alleviate poor planning and over discusiion over city placements and such

I would say you were both incorrect. We do need to focus Militarily and push forward in acquiring land to expand in. But we need to be expanding at the same time. We need to be a well oiled machine that works properly at all times. Have you ever noticed that when you're at war, the AI is busy doing Culture and when you are expanding, the AI is developing it's Military and getting in wars? No matter what we do they AI will hit us in an area that we are not concentrating on. That's why we need to expand while we are at war. We have Settler factories, we have cities devoted to Military production. Let's keep on this same track and grow as a nation. If we let our Military level slip, they will come for us. If we don't expand, they will take our land. If we take their land, they will slow there expansion to concentrate on warring. Japan is already touching Azteca. They are a double threat. More so than America, I think. If we expand to the Eastern coast, we can block off that area. If we turn and fight the Japanese, we can expand up river and irrigate our lands as we settler them. This will mean more Settlers and workers for us. But we can't do it without the Military force to take what we need.

And Fionn, we should have never stopped planning. We should never stop in the future either. It should be a continual process. Going from one war to another wouldn't be to alleviate the problems caused by poor planning. It will only be by excellent planning that we will be able to do so successfully. A future warplan is definitely needed. So is where to strategically place a Temple or a Library. Planning ahead is the action that makes or breaks a society.

But lets wait for japan to declae war, not like ou cant push someone in the direction i have :) many times hehe

The problem with that tactic is if we wait for Japan to declare war, they will be ready for it. We should make ourselves ready for it now, so we can turn the war card over when we want.

i hate that, but ill say it again im in the majority when it comes to this discussion so anything i say wont sway anybody over. So ill switch the old slogan of Make love, Not war and change it to Make war, not love :D

How about "Make war, then make Love".
Have you seen those Geisha girls in Japan?

I agree Plexus, and I say "let's go find out, Fionn". Let's plan a multi-division rendevous at Tlatelolco and head up river.

I agree. Japan is the most immediate danger. The smaller they are when they get their UU, the less danger they will do with it. With captured Japanese and Azteca lands to add to our development base we will be able to compete with America.

Very cool, Mr. President. Now we have to bring Military and Domestic online. Can we get General Falcon02 to coordinate the initiative? Can we convince Minister Fionn that we need more Settlers, Workers and Military Units? Not necessarily in that order.
We will all need to come together on this to bring about a viable plan. What are your thoughts on coordinating an offensive?

I agree we need to settle more, one city should be designated as a Settler factory another as a Spear factory (escort and defence for Settlers).

We also need to prepare for a war vs. the Japanese, but I believe expansion and infrastructure are prioirty #1 and War is Priority #2.

The longer we battle the weaker we will become. We attacked to early to begin with. We should have built up are economy more, but you guys are talking about continueing to war? If we attack japan American will take advantage of are weakness. If we attack American Japan will take advantage of it. We MUST build up are economy and prepare for an attack. So whichever one decides to attack first we can retaliate quickly and effciantly.

We need peace for this time. If we declare war in the status we are at we will find ourselves in a poistion Falcon might not be able to get us out of. War with Japan & America is most likely going to happen, but we need to try and slow that down as much as poossible before it happens.
