I find the actual unit strength display a bit confusing, I think it would be best to put the total strength first and each part (fire, cold, ....) after

make it the first option- but color code the numbers following it
(blue-cold) (red-fire) (holy-white) (nature-green)

6 [1+(2)(3)]

I can read either, and slightly prefer the second, but find that I'm wondering about the offensive/defensive split. Is this format only to be used when it is already clear which strength is called for, or did I miss where the two were merged back together?

In 0.21 its all consistent (in fact everything goes to the same function to get the combat strength line isnt of calculating it in 3 different places). In the lower left hand box the total strength is displayed. So for a 3 strength +3 fire creature it would just be 6. In all of the mouseover text it is broken out as 3 (+3 Fire). That applies to either the PLE mouseover or the normal unit mouseover.

It seems to work pretty well. I know 0.20 is kina a hodgepodge of formats.

I still don't see why it's not 6(3Fire, 2 Death) as I think it's easier to undestand that 1(+3 Fire)(+2 Death)

The split attack/defense can be confusing, I keep thinking they need healing:lol:

I don't mind the strength display as is. There are never too many numbers to add together, even on buffed units. All I'm holding out for are fixes for the display bugs (ie, damaged split-strength units not showing up as 4.4/2.1, etc).

ah and I thought it was 1 strength and something like:
counter[firedamage=yes]*3

now I know, thanks for this thread :)

The first option is quite a bit easier to understand since it tells the total strength straight out, whereas the second one you have to calculate it yourself.
