idk but something with the word "Olympic" would probably nice
Moreover, I see Ascendancy reasching the point where they start using more and more 'mystical' terminology as the progress, to the point where they tacitly see themselves as gods. It would make a nice transition in the building names too - NVRS is hard science, references to genetics. Epigentic Temple has a mix of hard science as less scientific, and in the ultimate, the pretense of divinity is favored over the truth - Ascendancy truly views themselves as gods.
NVRS - 1 Transcend Specialist, and that's it. Requires level 2 in each affinity. Quest centers around the centers should encourage zygotic twinning in the en vitro procedure, which would increase the size of the 'advanced' population rapidly, but result in fewer resources for each individual while growing (+15% to growth, or +1 Health).
Epigenetic Temple - The thing about genetics is that having a gene for something means nothing if the regulatory pathway for it doesn't turn it on. For example, very efficient muscles don't mean as much if you don't still build up muscle mass. In that sense, the building can be thought of as a fancy gym, where people put in the effort to actually make use of the genetic potential given to them. Has 2 slots for Transcend Specialists (increased potential of whole population), and also allows 1 free specialist in the city (achieving said potential is even easier). Still uncertain of the quest, both flavor-wise and mechanics-wise. Requires 4 in each affinity.
Orichalcum Smelter - See ongoing discussion on development of quest![]()
Cloudhome - (Uncertain of name) Requires Floatstone to build. Removes the need for buildings to actually have a foundation on the ground, allowing for a lot more room for people to live in, decreasing the pressure of overcrowding. Yields +15% health (decreasing unhealthiness is stronger and models idea better, but I'd like it to be a clear difference between Purity and Ascendancy that Purity is removing unhealthiness sources, and Ascendancy is adding more - further distinguishing their overlap), as well as decreasing the unhealthiness caused by specialists (not sure by how much, not sure how to code). Because the key ideas behind it are using Floatstone and focusing on the people, it's mainly leaning towards Purity - the only Harmony influence is the fact that if individuals are going to live in the clouds like gods, their going to need modifications for the thinner atmosphere (Currently 6 Purity, 4 Harmony, subject to change). Quest will center around how these homes are produced in large enough quantities for the population - a bunch of companies offer to help subsidize them in exchange for the right to use it as an opportunity to advertize (free maintenance), but higher quality might result from giving the task to individual craftsmen who could find employment (adds 2 Engineer Specialist slots).
Mytho-Menagerie - Not certain how this will be received, especially for Ascendancy instead of Harmony, but the idea tickles me.
Nearing release of at least the Ascendancy buildings - all that remains to code is the free specialists from Epigenetic Temple, the specialist health from Cloudhome, and the Anthropantheon itself (possibly also more thorough debugging, but releases help to debug).
@GenEngineer, you would seek to unleash an unholy doomsday weapon unto New Earth!? You monster, how dare you even think of creating a dreaded Llama!
Sorry, accidentally submitted a double post, but I guess I'll use this opportunity to brush on my feelings towards some of the other affinities.
Harmony:
Harmony should draw strength from the planet. Its natural resources, particularly the organic ones, should be stronger than other affinities. There should definitely be more incentive and ability to befriend and harness the wrath of the native fauna. Alien nests and lack of alien aggression would be nice additions to Harmony's set of tools.
Purity:
Purity possesses a desire to terraform the planet to be like old earth. And they possess not one, but two tile improvements linked to the affinity. I think it would be nice if you could somehow provide more incentive to pursuing this mechanic via the buildings, I think that would interesting.
Supremacy:
Supremacy to me should feel like an industrial powerhouse. Their raw productive capabilities should be second to none. Making mass Nodes, Generators, and Manufactories feel like they would be right their alley. I think they should come across as almost a production line.
Now for the other hybrids:
Mastery/Clarity/Whatever:
To me, they feel all about Proxy, Command, Substitution, Turtling, and Sieging. The Drone Command Artifact Building as well as the Markov Eclipse totally belong to this hybrid's school. Even more-so than Purity, I see Mastery/Clarity as holing up inside of a bubble and letting RC robots do their work for them.
Voracity/Audacity/Ferocity:
Last but not least the power hungry Harmony + Supremacy hybrid. Turning their "power by any means" attitude is challenging, as they don't care how they get stronger. I suppose I would go about this backwards and look for things they would not do. They are not limited by historical sentiment. They are the antithesis of Purity.
Anyway those are my brief thoughts on the matter. I hope they help you refine your position on the affinities.
