Do all games end up going the same way?

I start every game thinking that I'm not going to be warmongering. Then there's one resource or lux that I just HAVE to have, and a short war to get it won't be that big a deal. By the end of the war I have a ton of units sitting around doing nothing and someone elses land/wonder/resource just looks too tempting so I go to war again. Rinse, repeat as needed.

Now at the mid high level of Emperor I find its impossible to win without a total war commitment strategy.

It's really tough to win on emperor or above without a war because the AI gets so many free units in the beginning. You can however win with limited wars and win other ways (diplo, space, etc..) and on deity and SID (which I only tried twice) you not only have to pick a war with someone you can beat but it helps alot if you have alot of resources and luxeries

I never comit myself to war, but the war usually comes to me. Someone attacks, then I build my military, then I have nothing to do with it. So I go to war again.
And it's not hard because of the free units, but because they build much faster.

In a game that im playing now on Rhyes world map i am america... i took all of north america and its about 500 AD. Spain controls all of south america... well my point is that i couldve stayed a peaceful nations but that get REALLY boring so i went to war with spain. I think that alot of people do about the same thing. thats why it almost always ends up in wars.

I think the reason I end up in war is that if im not in war im generally prosperous. If im generally prosperous I generally have an abundance of production. If I have an abundance of production I usually cant find much to do but make units in some cities. If I dont have much to do but make units I generally quickly find I have ALOT of units. If I have alot of units I generally find im way over burdened with their upkeep. If im way overburdened with their upkeep I might as well use them.

And then so you have: ergo not at war implies war.

If you're so prosperous, move up a level. When I play peaceful, I'm usually short of units because I build so many workers and improvements.
