I believe so. Just a minute ago I was laying down with my pug and petting her fur. Then she reached out her paw and stoked my hair! It was like she was trying to pet me! She noticed that I do it when I want to show that I like her. And she figured if she did it, it will show that she likes me! I love my pug! :) Anyway I think animals have feelings. What do you think?

Of course they do, there is no doubt. ;)

I have absolutely no doubt whatsoever that amimals have feelings. They may not be defined in "human " terms, but they love, experience fear, joy, sadness, loyalty, etc... What I want to know is do they go to heaven?

if they have feelings, why they pee on carpet ?

Thanks for clearing that up;)
unfortunately I still dont get it.

Perhaps they are thinking "hmmm I can't feel a thing, good thing this carpets here."
or "dang I just dont know how to express myself, where's that carpet.":D

Of course they do. Try this experiment: Violently erupt from your chair and kick your pooch twice in the ribs, accompanied by shouting and cursing.
Now stand back and study its facial expression, paying particular attention to the eyes.
What do you see?

I think you could get the same results without the kicks, bud;)

I feel like the producers of the jackass movie.

How does the disclaimer go again?

Disclaimer: don't you or your dumb buddies really try this at home.

Doggone it.

I vote yes. I was in Scotland for over a year and my mother was looking after the two cats I owned back in the States during the time I was gone. A day or so after I came back, my cats wouldn't let me out of their sight. The male cat has to constantly be touching me, he'll either have a paw on me or lay right up against me. If I try to move away he'll inch closer again. He also nuzzles noses and pets the female kitty's head, it looks like they truly love each other.

Awwwwwwwwwwwww! Cute!

By feelings I mean the ability to control your feelings. By no feelings I mean that pet moods are automated like the moods of rulers on Civ 3.

Feelings. Limited problem-solving ability, perhaps, but definitely feelings. Maybe nothing more than feelings. Feeeeeeeelings. Nothing more than... feeeeeeeeelings...

I don't think it takes a behavioral scientist to see that "animals" can express happiness, fear, anger. Heck, my cat has been known to hold a grudge.

"Meow."
"No, you can't go outside. It's fricken' freezing."
"Meow."
"I said no."
"Meow."
"Go use the cat box, but I'm not letting you out."
"Me-ooow."
"No."
"Meow?"
"No. And if I say no, Mom won't let you out either."
"Meow."
"Good. I'm glad we understand each other."

...what I didn't realize was that last 'meow' actually meant "Fine, two legs, I'm gonna go shred your toilet paper." Little twit.

Sometimes they can feel things, and sometimes they're just plain dumb :p

I eat my supper, the dog walks up to the table and starts wagging his tail and panting. This happens EVERY time.

Me: No, Gizmo (named the dog after Gremlins), go eat your dog food...

Gizmo: *continues to wag tail, pant*

Me: Go on, go eat your dog food!

Gizmo: *continues to wag tail, pant*

Then I just give up and ignore her.

Well, sure. You should be able to determine that clinically; if there's a brain, then I would be surprised if there isn't a sympathetic nervous system!
