Is there a way to build a road route across water? Can I build some sort of bridge? Or will land units always have to embark and boat across the water?

the only think you can do is to build channel. If you have 1 tie separating 2 bodies of water, you can build city there and move your ships form one body to other and connect trade routes try this city. Otherwise no.

Only across rivers. To cross a full water hex a unit must get on a slow boat :(

Spaceships to other planets. Mind connections with alien species. Teleporters through satelites. Magnetic levitation rails.

But can't construct bridges. *womp wooomp* :(

We have sacred duty to protect the Ocean. We can pollute land as mach as we like, but ocean nonono.

bridges across oceans don't exist in the civilization universe they never have :p

*ahem* Civil War scenario in CiV.

Yeah, but those bridges are considered natural structures as they exist at the start of the scenario. There is a civ 5 mod somewhere that actually does add bridge improvements but they could only be built on shore tiles. I don't know if I have a link. It should be somewhere in steam civ 5 workshop.

Those "ocean" tiles (are they ocean or coast? I don't recall) are meant to represent navigable rivers since the scenario map is more zoomed-in than a typical civ map. There have never been bridges spanning actual ocean tiles in Civ (Call to Power doesn't count because I've intentionally blocked that game from my memory and, therefore, it doesn't exist).

They skipped bridge technology and concentrated on hovering units - that, my friend, is technological progress! [emoji6]

I seem to get a lot of inland seas so this kind of bridge would be extremely useful and aesthetically pleasing to me.

Even if it imposed some sort of max length cap, say 2 tiles, or 3 tiles, or whatever.
