Hello.

I have been playing Moo2 again these days. Great memories flowing, and still a very good gameplay... :)

Does anyone know wether the AI EVER builds a dimensional portal and attacks Antares? I have never seen it happen in my games, and that's a shame, because it means only the human player can win by defeating the Antarans.

Best regards.

They will build the portal, but for sure I have never seen them win that way. I can't say they have not sent ships and lost them, but I suspect they have not. I never see them go after Orion (Moo1) either and I usually do not attack Orion, unless only one planet is left. So they have plenty of chances.

They will take out the guardian in Moo2, if you do not get there first. I have had many games where I had not found Orion and got the msg they had.

The AI is so weak in MOO2 that it seems highly unlikely to occur unless you let them win. Even then, it's still highly unlikely. That is because most games the AI wins is by being elected supreme ruler of the galaxy. The AI always votes for itself if's one of the two leading candidates.

It's been a while since I played, but if the AI builds portals, it seems logical to assume they use it as well. But they never defeat Antares.

I see you have a mod for Moo2 and civ. I will try to check it out this week. Is it for Civ2/3/4? I recall there was a Moo scenario for Civ2.

Been a while since I loaded up Moo2, but my recollection is that the AI may attack the Guardian, but I can't ever remember them winning by defeating the Antarans. I can't even recall them ever building portals, but that may be more a function of my memory than anything else. vmxa seems to remember them building portals, so I guess they do.

If you want to see them build them just play some sort of turtle game. What I often do is to not allow any new systems until I have reached a certain point.

This could be a tech level or diplo (war with 3 races or something) or a date. Then I can move out. Sometimes I will wait long enough that by the time I find Orion it is already conquered. At that point there is at least one race that is quite large and has or soon will have Portal knowledge.

Then I see portals up. I never paid attention to their fleets to see if a mass exodus occurred. I guess I will have to try that in my next game. I have seen games where large fleet could no longer be seen, but I do not know if that was wars or a trip to Antaran.

Need to really watch close to see where they are going. If the last spotting was heading to planet with no portal, then it was war. If it was a portal planet of theirs, it could be a battle for Antie. I would doubt that they actually put any logic for it.

Maybe Lord Braz?? has the answer.

You could try to engineer an AI Antares victory. The key is that you have to make sure that they don't win by other means such the the galactic elections.

Choose a huge map and 8 opponents. Gain enough systems to comfortably hold the lead and always abstain from voting to keep the AI from getting elected. Permit one or more AIs to grow and gain technology. Never allow them complete domination of the map. Eventually, they should build up a large enough and advanced enough fleet to conquer Antares.

I really doubt they attack Antares at all.
In some games on Impossible difficulty, when I go the path of peaceful building and let them live unbothered, some AI races build fleets so huge and so advanced that they could vaporise the Antaran home fleet in one turn. For instance, I have a save (on a medium size galaxy) where the Psilons have a fleet of about 16 DS, 40 Titans and many smaller ships, all loaded with Stellar converters or dozens of Hv AF AP Gauss cannons. Yet, nothing happens.

It could be an AI bug that was never addressed because of the low probability that it would ever need to occur for the AI to win.

I have seen those massive fleets as well and they do not attack. I think it was not implemented.

Never had them attack Antares, despite the AI building a portal at every colony. I think they just go through building everything on the build list if given enough time.
But they do definitely take out the Guardian of Orion, and then colonize it. I hate losing Orion!!!
