Do I have to patch Rome: Total War Gold Edition?

I've just finished installing R:TW Gold Edition, and I was just wondering, do I need to patch it, or does it come fully patched?

If you go to Options and check the current version then go to www.totalwar.com and check for the current patch. I think you need 1.3 before you can goto 1.5. You really only *need* it for online play unless you just want the fixes/updates. Single player works just fine out of the box.

I was wondering about whether I could play Europa Barbarorum.

EDIT: As it turns out, I need the current patch. However, after the game crashed when I patched Medieval II (as it turns out, patching in TW works differently than Civilization), I would like to learn how to patch correctly. How can I patch?

You should check the install FAQ of the mod or something which version of the game do you need for EB to work, it might not be the latest version (like some mods for BTS don't work on 3.19 but only on 3.17 or 3.13).

Well, the current version is for 1.5.

Yes, the Gold Edition is 1.5, there is one more patch to 1.6. However, while EB works just fine with 1.6 (which my Total War Eras version is) it will work just fine with 1.5.

Iirc 1.6 is mostly or only stuff for multiplayer, and a lot of people don't bother patching it unless they got the Eras boxset (which comes at 1.6, no patch needed) or for a mod.
