Do mods automatically become public when created?

I created a little mod that's strictly for my own use (nobody else would be interested in it). Ive been using it for several weeks and it just occurred to me that it may be appearing in everybody's mod list with in the game. My question is - when mods are created using ModBuddy do they automatically appear on everybody's mod list. If so how do I stop that from happening? If not how do I make that happen once I actually create a mod that's worth downloading?

Yup. When you publish it.

Stop it by marking the private checkbox on online tools. Alternatively, don't publish it? :/ Building a mod does not publish it btw.

Thanks for the responses. The fact that it isn't automatically published is a good thing (for now). But exactly how do I go about publishing a mod when I decide to do so in the future? I'm not sure what you mean by online tools?

It's a pretty tedious process for your first mod, but you get used to it.

Go to tools. Go to online tools. Get a gamespy account. Your online tools should have an upload button once you make an account. Browse for your mod, go to packages and open that. The rest is pretty self expanatory.

Thanks I'll try that when the time comes.
