Do you approve extending the Monday 3/7 play session beyond 10 turns, to a maximum of 20 turns, as noted in the first post?
  • Yes
  • No
  • Abstain
This poll will be open until the beginning of the play session, at which time I will post the current vote totals at that time. This poll is informational in nature, and non-binding.

Interpretation:

More than 70% approval and 15 total votes or more will be interpreted as the people want play to continue up to 20 turns at DPs discretion, normal stop conditions e.g. contacting another civ, situation which does not match expectations, etc.
Less than 50% approval and 15 or more total votes will be interpreted as the people want a hard stop at 10 turns, or earlier at DP discretion for the same reasons noted above.
Any other result will be interpreted as the people want play to continue past 10 turns only if there is reasonable expectation of something important to be learned by continuing, at DP discretion as noted above.

This has been discussed ad nauseum in the number of turns per play sessions discussions back in the DG5 forums.

It's not right for me to rate my own poll, but I'll try to be honest with myself. ;)

This poll would receive a fair rating under the PSC rules. The timeframe is too short and there was no specific discussion prior to the poll, but it is handled correctly within the available constraints. The interpretation is key, and it is made non-binding in the tradition that the DP is really responsible for making the decision and then justifying it if necessary. A positive answer however will be used as justification if the play session is extended. ;)

Needless to say, I recommend a yes vote, to give the DP power to continue the game as long as there are valid instructions covering that timeframe. :hammer:

Well, this is my first time being around for the start of a Demogame, so I'm not really sure. But, from my own experience, the start of the game is a fairly slow process. I don't see anything wrong with extending the TC beyond 10 turns.

I hated the slow start of DG5 last time. And we did indeed need 20 turns to map enough tiles to make a fruitful discussions. The less tiles there are to discuss, the more time we got for legalities. I say go for all 20 turns.

I concur, the first few turns, especially till you have enough explorers is a rather claustrophobic experience: stuck in the vastness of an unexplored world...
We need to be fairly sure where to focus for the second city before the TC ends.

We should've done this earlier. Now I have to come up with 10 more turns of instructions. :( (and that's not as easy as you think it is for me).

I'm voting NO - if we had a poll Saturday, I would've voted YES.

Poll closed, result Yes=10 No=4, Abstain=0
71% approval but fewer than 15 votes.

Any other result will be interpreted as the people want play to continue past 10 turns only if there is reasonable expectation of something important to be learned by continuing, at DP discretion as noted above.

I vote no. Stick with the traditional 10 turns.
