Do you consider historgraphic win a victory?

I was playing one of the MesoAmerican conquest on Prince. I had found myself making massive expansions out and was close to fufilling the scenareo conditions (about 75 turns to go) however quickly my military collapsed and the enemy started taking my cities.

On Civ 2 I have managed to play and win up to Emporor level however on this Civ 2 game I was left with four cities and was being attacked on both fronts - another 10 turns and I would have collapsed completely.

However holding off my oponents just long enough meant I took a tiny score victory based on my earlier greatness - this narrow victory was for me very satisfying.

I would aggree however if you simply become massive and wait to win rather than trying for any of the other victory conditions is no fun - and on the higher difficulty settings its generally fruitless, even the small enemies will make a shot at a spaceship or gather support for a diplomatic victory.

Not really. It's more of a stalemate. I didn't get the victory I wanted, but at least I didn't lose either.

I would say it really depends on the balance of power at 2050 AD; if you're already dominant it's more of a victory than if you're hanging on by the skin of your teeth.

Just won the Emperor game I was talking about, so no, I no longer think of it as a victory hehe :) I won by Spaceship

i agree with HalfBadger: it's a bit of a backup win. Its almost like your not good enough to win properely but can still claim a victory. I would say it was my least prefered form of victory.
That said doing it on the harder levels, with all other conditions enabled, ranks right up there with the best.

But do you guys consider histographic victory a real "victory"?
yes because I got the highest score, nuff said.

Sure it's considered a victory but tell me; what gives you more satisfaction:
Large histograph or,
Looking down at the minimap and seeing your city color stretched across the entire world with a single spot of your enemies color as your troops come down upon the helpless AI while you laugh like a lunatic.<cue lightning strike in background>

A diplomatic victory is like kissing your homely cousin.

A histographic victory is like kissing your sister.

A spaceship victory is like kissing a hot cheerleader.

A domination victory is like kissing Claudia Schiffer.

A conquest victory is like inventing a time machine, traveling back in time to impersonate Gregory Peck on the set of Roman Holiday, and making out with Audrey Hepburn between takes.
