Because, I'm not that great at the game, currently playing at warlords level, and I never seem to have to research the wheel, and yes, it isn't my civs starting tech, do you not have to research the wheel at easier levels?

(And i didn't get it from a goodie hut because as soon as i settled my village the wheel wasn't there as an option.)

killz67,

If you check the Civopedia it under "Civilizations" you should see a part that reads "Starting Techs." Those are the "normal" starting techs. I know that at lower difficulty levels you receive bonus starting techs, but once you hit Noble you only get your civilization's starting techs.

Settler: The Wheel, Agriculture, Mining
Chieftain: The Wheel, Agriculture
Warlord: The Wheel

Those are the extra starting techs for the human on the lowest three levels, so yes, you are getting an advantage in that regard. At Noble and Prince, the AIs and you get no extra techs, and on Monarch and above, the AIs get free starting techs.

so if you originally have some of these techs, you don't get as much of a bonus, looks like hunting, mysticism, and fishing are the best techs to have at lower levels:p

I never even knew this feature existed until reading this thread. I've played as Egypt for as long as I can remember, and since Egyptian leaders always start with Agriculture and Wheel, and I've never played a game below Chieftain level... Turns out I've been conditioning myself for playing on higher difficulties all this time.
