well the we all started out as city states in way, and we all get more and more city there should be option in game to make city states more or less powerfull and give them same options for dipolmacy as every one elese also option to turn on and off the abilty for the city states to compet to win the game.

maybe would been better to have taken them out of the game all to gethere and just made then regual factions and called it a day.

and allowed up to 32 players to be in the game.

I agree. I would love to see them be able to have atleast 2 cities. They would be something like minor nations, like you said

In the play-through video from a few weeks ago (or was it one week?) they said it was possible for a city a state to get more cities by conquering them during a war. They did also say that it was a very rare occurrence. In my experience, the city-state AI just focuses on eliminating units and harassing cities that are very close to them.

I've seen city states take other cities, but they generally always raze the cities they take. Still, they've held onto two cities at once for a brief time. I bet this behavior is moddable, though it might be open to gameyness.

There's a cool thread in the discussion section where Warsaw has basically annexed the Aztec empire. They have I think five or six cities, including Tenochtitlan.

It made all the Polish Civ players who have been campaigning to have them in the game thrilled :D

They totally can, I've seen Venice with Heliopolis now. As to whether they can found anything, I don't know. What are the limits of a City State? That they can't build wonders, initiate diplomacy or build settlers? Can they buy land?

I can understand not calling them "Minor Nations" though - "Minor" might imply the state they're named for is less important whilst "City State", though something of a misnomer, is... semi-accurate here. It's a city representing a nation state.

Also, at least "some" are/were city-states.

They can't build new cities. I haven't experienced them building wonders, so i would assume that they can't. Diplomacy isn't the same as diplomacy with other civs. I don't know if they can buy land

once i've been at war with three civs and one of my allied city-states (which i gave many modern units) annexed six russian cities, including moscow (!). now i use often this strategy on huge/marathon games: it dosen't always work, but it is really worth it since with cultural diplomacy it doubles the gifted ressources from your allied city-states. You can get massive amounts of precious ressources like aluminium without yourself taking a single city!

Hey meteora, please be careful about posting in 14 month old threads. I'll report it to be closed. :)

Moderator Action: :yup: such a discussion is more suited for general discussion, and also better suited in a current thread (open a new one if you can't find a recent one. Thread closed. The_J
