I thought the manual states that it is a free, no maintenance unit...

The Conquests manual only says that the unit is produced for free. It does not mention maintenance or upkeep.

It costs upkeep but you can just disband it if you need money.

This raises another question for me...if you mark an unit as maintenance-free in the editor, will it count against the free unit support? I don't think so, but can some confirm this? Thanks...

Unfortunately, I think it does. And you mean SoZ (Statue of Zeus, not Temple of Zeus)

I just tested it and "maintenance-free" units do not count against the unit support.

You're correct. I did mean SoZ.

OK, AC is produced free but you're either paying 1gpt for upkeep or it counts against the total number of units. It is NOT a maintenance free unit.
