The question is in thread title - does anybody interested in Moo2 clone for browsers?
I think current technologies can easily provide almost all interface possibilities for Moo2 in browser.

Also it can be much easier to mod this game.
One more question - what is possible hidden rocks?
In what condition we can use sources from Moo2: texts, design, sound, etc.?

Or maybe such clone already done and I just don't know about it.

I would expect that all of parts of Moo2 are open, except the use of the name Master Of Orion and the art. I say that as mostly the names of planets and items are part of the science world. The names for races, may be owned as well.

May do better in shooting for a phone app, idk. In all cases, it will be a massive undertaking for a single person.

Lord of Rigel is already project that seeks to recreate MOO2 closely and I'd expect it to be moddable according to modern standards. In between that, MOO4, the modding the original MOO2 still is getting and a bunch of other space strategy games it seems pointless to start yet another project.

Maybe you should see if you can help out with Lord Of Rigel?
