Does anybody still even play this game?

I should love to play it if I could play it on the PC.

I bought it in 93 but of course it is outdated and I haven't found a way yet to play it again.

Why on earth can't they include Civ1 in a Civ-collection for modern OS

I think what I like about CIVILIZATION "Build An Empire To Stand The Test Of Time" dos version is that it was written in a style that runs on modern equipment. It doesn't have graphics that require drivers and a special video cards. With that said; Some people run dos box and are very happy. I guess my machine is too slow for dosbox. I play it in dos. It is remarkable how little dos is needed to get it to run. 98SE boot disk and a fat partition is about all it takes. The manual has a little information on how to run from floppies.

DON'T have floppies? somewhere on this forum I have detail instructions on how to make a bootable CD.

Not sure what you are asking for here. It is available on a CD see the Sticky at the top of this Forum. Of course it is not going to be rewritten for windows. It is too bad that, in my opinion, the Win/Civ didn't stay with the same graphics and the new interface was not as clean.

outdated.
I'll answer that with a quote.

"It was in order to play this game
that computers were invented.
All the other uses of a computer
are just to provide you with
a public excuse for all the money
you spent to buy the machine."

I think the quote is 13 years old, so maybe we are all out of date here.

I have great respect for civ 1, and although I have never played it myself, I am dying to play the game that started it all.
