self explainatory, programs is called download accelerator. Im curious as to whether any technies know if it makes any difference whatsoever.

thx!

if its what i'm thinking it is, it opens multiple communication ports rather than just the one. it does make things download faster if you have the bandwidth to spare, and the place you're downloading from allows it.

they're not very friendly though.

EDIT: multiple ports, the file is split up into multiple files which download simultaneously.

Yeah it really speeds it up. With some websites it works better than other though. But generally it's worth downloading.

It comes with a lot of spyware, so don't be surprised if your IE suddenly has a few more buttons.

I have getright and I had had to DL a file that normaly would have taken 24hours to DL took 12 hours to DL with getright plus you can pause and resume DL. :)

One of the main benefits with a slow connection is the ability to resume downloads...

That is something that irritated me a lot when I still had a dial- up... if the connection broke or something happened, it was to start again again from the beginning...

Thats why I used to use download accelerator but recently I haven't needed to download anything that would take too long to download in one go...

The pausing and resuming is definately the only reason I would use it for dial-up. Back when I had dial-up the performance increase wasn't too impressive but the pause resume saved hours of re-downloading. In most cases it will significantly speed up downloads with high-speed connections since there is usually excess bandwidth lurking.
