Man, Eurasia must be pretty irradiated right now. Just like how Russia is planning to bury China in nukes soon too because of that high scores thing, right?

BTW, ideologies are immortal as long as societies invest their trust/beliefs in them. This is especially powerful in a society with a forced rotation of leaders so that (supposedly) no one leader can corrupt the ideology. I imagine a domination "victory" is something that plenty of societies AND sociopathic leaders IRL have sought after... ever heard of WW2?

e: the point I'm getting is that real-life is a bad example to parallel CiV to. The only thing that might hold true is that nations are after their own self-interests first and foremost, and even then its rather dubious given the mouth-frothin' kamikaze mentality they occasionally display in-game.

Yes. My original post that you responded to was meant to reflect the desire to have more solid relationships that could withstand a couple of diplomatic hits without disrupting the overall diplomatic relationship (like you see between Israel/US and England/US).

I know you said rulers. The purpose of my post was that (of course) no human can live for hundreds or thousands of years, however, the ideologies that are created by humans can survive for these lengths of time and dictate the paths of entire societies. A sociopathic mentality that survives for centuries (ideology) is much more dangerous than a sociopathic ruler who will eventually die or be defeated.
