Domination cheap way to win now?

I had a 4 city civ going for tech and culture (I did have about 10 or more puppets). I was up to mechanized infantry when other civs were just entering the industrial era, so I created 3 mechanized infantry for each of the remaining three civs (upgrades and purchasing) and attacked their capitals at the same time. Game over.

Two of the remaining civs had huge armies covering entire continents with over 10 cities each. But it didn’t matter because I just needed the capitals, which where both on the coast. Could be kind of a cheap way to win, not sure.

Definitely try not to build your capital on the coast now.

You can change domination in advance setup to kill everything and not just capitals...

Also, you can change it up by fighting the wars and liberating those that are taken over instead of killing and keeping...

That way leads you to a diplo, I mean liberation win...

I think Domination is currently the 'easiest' victory condition, and I'd like to see some tweaks to bring it in line with the others.

The problem is simply that it's not really any more difficult to sack a capital more than it is any other city, and the AI doesn't particularly go out of the way to defend theirs. I thought at first that cities in general were too easy to take, but I think I'd be satisfied if at least the capitals had a lot more beef to them. A simple solution might be to just add a defense bonus to the palace building. It could be a flat number that gets bumped with specific techs or just a straight up multiplier (2x - 2.5x) that is always applied. Victory-wise, taking a capital should be about the equivalent of building a spaceship part, but it is not nearly the same in cost/time/resources.

Domination is cheap.

I'm playing on Emperor to a house rule of combat in my own borders (I let my armies attack units outside my borders so long as my guys are actually in my borders).

Meant to say, teh capitals deffo need a solid additional attack bonus. They should be able to kill a complete unit a turn I'd say and maybe get a range advantage too, perhaps that could come with a fortress of some sort. Perhaps it could function like a general for local troops too.

The early rush would be nerfed that way and taking a capital would, as has been discussed, become a serious undertaking.

I don't see why the great general can build something that takes -3 off all adjacent units while the cities are supposedly weaker than that? I mean for F sake, the city attack rarely takes more than -1 and you can only attack once!

I won't want my cities to be any stronger tho, they're already untouchable as it is if you put a cannon in them... The computer does not need another point to fail at...
