Please help me... I just won my third game ever, with a Domination Victory. The thing is, I don't want to have a Domination Victory! I want to keep playing and get a "real" victory, so to speak. Space Race, Conquest, Diplomacy, whatever, just not Domination! I read a little and decided the first time I didn't want a Domination Victory, so I turned it off at the beginning of the game. After I achieved a Domination Victory in that game, I started a second one thinking maybe I messed up. I know for a fact that Domination Victory was not checked on the second two games, and to make sure, I turned off Cultural Victory on both, and Cultural Conversions on the third. I'm desperate. Once I "win" by domination, I cannot win again. Yet maybe it's just me, but domination doesn't really feel like victory. Here's a screenshot I took immediately after clicking "Let me play a few more turns." You can see just how much of the world I (as Persia) "dominate". Sure, it's the largest known empire, but Zululand isn't far behind, and in the aftermath it was clear Russia dominated much more land. I did have very high culture, comparatively, and it occurred to me that the requirements for "domination" might be rather low on Chieftain level (having only ever played 3 games, Chieftain is the only level I've played on), but none of that should have made a difference with Domination "turned off."

My question is this: How on earth, or whatever planet I'm dominating, can I really turn off the Domination option?

After re-reading that, I should probably clarify, Russia was on the western continent, I saw it during the playback.

And another curiosity, not that I'm complaining about this one-- in the screenshot you can see two Babylonian Workers, southwest and somewhat east of Rome. Throughout the entire game, Babylon was sending Workers into my territory, building roads for the most part, but rarely in places that would make any sense. There are two Babylonian cities nearby, Nimrud and Zamua, but these Workers seem to be just randomly building roads.

First, how is domination not a real victory?

Second, that doesn't look like anywhere near the amount needed for a domination victory

Well, ok, it's a real victory, but don't you get a lot more enjoyment out of pounding every other civilization to a pulp than being told "Oh hey, it doesn't look like it, but you've won." And I did turn off Domination Victory, and I know that should be nowhere near enough to get it, but what can I say? That's precisely what my problem is.

Have you changed the conditions for Domination victory in the editor? Or in the setup screen if you're playing C3C?
Unmodded Domination requires 67% of the map territory and 67% of the world population. And you've obviously nowhere near 67% of the map area.

I haven't even touched the editor... I'm running the Gold edition, if that makes any difference. But I'm rather new to Civilization, and these three games are the only games I've played.

Got a save file then that we can look at?

I'm not sure how to post a save file on here... If you can tell me, I can probably do it. But I went back to the time I saved it before the Victory to see if I got it again. I even did a few things different, such as not going to war with the Ottomans. Nevertheless, at the same time, I won again. This time I took a few pictures.

Unless "You have achieved a Domination Victory!" means something besides the obvious...

I feel the same way, there's just nothing I can do about it.

I have the two best cities, but I'm only second in overall land area.

Here's the fun one. You can see for as much land as I had, plenty of other civilizations had just as much or more. What's more, up until my recent war with the Romans (which you can see concluded with the capture of Veii in 1715), I had about half the land I ended up with. You can also see my the massive amount of culture I had compared to the other civs. My total culture was 18020, with my top two cities at 6049 (Persepolis) and 3603 (Pasargadae). Yet I even had Cultural Victory and Cultural Conversions disabled at the start of the game.

Looking at the Demographics you don't even have the largest land mass out of everybody, something is wrong, you must of changed the requesites for a domination victory. BTW don't bash domination victories, they can be very difficult to obtain on higher levels when the AI expands so quickly and their cities flip so much.

Ya, there is no way that that is a domination under the default rules. Obviously you must have done something to it. Are you sure that you didn't change it in the editor?

You upload a save the same way you upload the image. Link to it. i.e., http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads6/somesave.sav (without spaces).

You definately edited something, since that looks like 15% of the world. Not to mention there's 2 civs that look larger than you.

I think you might have gotten a victory point win. If it was modded to 15%, other civs would have won by now.

The fact that the event log shows capture of both a Victory Point Location AND a Princess should give you a clue... :D

Ok, that's probably it then. I'll just have to stop playing with Victory Points! That is just kind of silly though... not just that you can win so easily (granted, not that easy on higher levels) by holding an enemy victory point for a few turns, but that they wouldn't take the time to have a "Victory Point Victory" pop-up... Thanks to everyone for your help!

Next time you start a game, just click on the default rules button, and then you wouln't have to worry about it.
