Story: WFP appeals for aid to save food program in Angola

Look at the picture with the caption: "A malnourished refugee child waits to receive food distributed by the World Food Program at a refugee camp in the outskirts of Luanda. The United Nations World Food Program warned that distribution of food aid to more than 700,000 Angolans, mostly children and returning refugees, would come to a halt unless new donations are received by the end of the month."

Look at what the starving kid is wearing...

If a picture paints a thousand words then why oh why can't I. More important things in the world, my selfish self agrandizement is more important, it's the way it is, no one but the few care for suffering, I think issues elsewhere are more important, it's all about me. NIMBY: Simply human nature, why care for people who you've never met...

That's quite the Photo. The agencey itself problably clothed this child in this shirt, and many will dismiss it as propiganda. This photo staged or not, makes a truthful statment though about the fundimental injustice in the world. Good on ya WFP.
Another thought; what would your reaction be it it were a fat western child were wearing it?

Possibly.

Would it make any difference if the shirt were just part of a corporate donation of clothing made to a relief agency?

I doubt the agency clothed the child in the shirt... but I suspect it picked the child for the photograph because of the shirt.

Granted, but I hope that a corporation that hires an engineer to make a sundial billboard to tell you what's on the menu would make more of an effort to properly clothe that child.

To start, that's an old shirt. It was probably a donation from some family that left it in their basement for five years and didn't have a use for it anymore. Kids grow out of shirts.

There isn't a McDonald's in Angola or even any neighboring country. South Africa is the only country with McDonald's locations in sub-Saharan Africa.

If you really want to hold somebody accountable for Angola's food mishaps, perhaps the MPLA is responsible, considering they run an effective dictatorship over the country.
