Double Your Civ

according to the set up, they are supposed to be next to you :D

in case you did not notice, civs 2-4 are in my culture group, 6-8 in yours.

what i think has happened is the Mayans popped a settler on the second or third turn and settled within one turn, or maybe popped a city. their score is almost double ours, meaning they have twice as much as we do, 2 cities = twice the area & 2 citizens (content?) Plus, one if not both, of these cities has probably grown by now. Anyway, my point was that the doubling of the score is what gives me this thought because since the score is an average of each turn's score this would indicate they have had two cities for almost the whole game.

I thought that adding a size one city at this stage of the game equals about 20 pts?? I could be wrong...
I haven't seen anyone yet, (no huts yet either, so some scouts might have already swept through).

2 turns yesteray and 3 today

4 things affect score, IIRC, happy citizens, content and specialist citizens, territory, and Future Tech. With our set up (standard size world, emporer difficulty) one city give us 50 points at the start, unless you settle on top pf a luxury then you would get points for a happy citizen instead of content, but i am not sure what the actual point difference is. I had assumed a second city, non overlapping, would also generate 50 points, another content face and 9 tiles of territory. So, I did a test and started a PBEM with myself (I normally don't play PBEM with myself unless I am really bored, I used a PBEM set up so I could see everyones scores right away to make sure I had not made an error at in the experiment.) I generated a map in the editor, assigned player one a specific starting spot, then added another settler nearby that starting spot, but far away so there would be no overlap. On the first turn when I settled both cities I would (and did) have 2 content citizens and 18 tiles of territory ina combined 2 cities, the other player and all the AI had there normal starts, no added settlers or anything. After the first turn player one did indeed have 100points as I expected. This has me curious to try experimenting with different things to see exactly what the points are for each factor.

Well, I've met my first neighbors, the Persians. They have produced their first settler and are on their way towards me (probably to snag a critical future resource somewhere near my core!). I've traded my Alphabet for their Warrior Code plus their 10 gold --- not a good trade at all, but I figure with the number of Expansionist civs out there, initial trade opportunities will fade fast.

Since I don't have a powerhouse food city (but fairly rich in shields), I'm going for a granary first before my first settler. Still not a hut in sight. Persia is escorting its settler with a Spear, btw, so no cheezy 1 on 1 warrior action for a quick war and a crippling stroke+2 slave workers ploy.

We had a small problem with the game, turns out culturally linked starts are, well, bogus, they don't work at all. I knew of some problem in single player which causes all games with culturally linked starts on to include civs from the American culture or something like that, but since we specified which civs were in the game I did not think it would be a problem at all, but it was. RJ &* I turne dup onm the same continent along with the Persians & Mayans. We were prolly about 12 tiles apart, capitol to capitol. We decided to restart and Loulong assisted us by assigning starts on a map so that the proper civs are on each continent, for which we are very thankful. Unfortunately, we are playing at regent difficulty, for some reason the difficulty level wont change or something, Loulong has started twice at emporer, but when we get the game it is at regent, oh well.

THe first game was played through 1375 BC, which was 66 turns, from Jan 17 to Feb 5 - 19 days = 3.47 turns / day. I was quite pleased with the pace as most of my other pbems go 3.47 days per turn and I believe the restarted game will move as well, although my workload has been increased lately.

Well, yeah. Add to the above a totally crazed Persian AI who was out to get me from day 1. Sheesh! I never saw such focused aggression from an AI at such an early age before. We survived quite well (despite a few good scares), but it definitely set back my expansion pace.

You might consider coming to CDZ and at least trying to read some tips there on how to manage the mapmaking process and start the game to make sure it is fair and balanced and on a proper level. ;)

Otherwise, it seems like wasting time.
