Download Link Doesnt Work, Other Sites Have Only Older Version

Bump due to 0.22 being out--Kael, that really looks like a VERY strange client. What are you using?

And you haven't replied to the main part of my post--that those people who are running a bittorrent client anyway won't be affected by this problem at all. I mean, if I have a bittorrent client already anyway, why shouldn't I have the option to get FFH like that? I surely would prefer that.

ok guys following from earlier discussions I've tried to make a torrent attached is the link, it's purely .22 no patches. Repulling from 3d this morning gave me a down speed of only 40k on an 8meg line.

I've noted Kael's concerns re torrents, but I've used them for years without an issue.

I've made the torrent into a .zip to get past the attachment restrictions, if Kael wants this taken down just let me know.

There a now a couple of people leeching (I'm pleased and surprised that it's working ;)) if you already have the .22exe just cut and paste it into where you normally have your torrents and download the tracker after a couple of minutes you'll be at 100% and seeding, that way we can leave the bandwidth for those who need it.

It would be great if people could do this (that is, help seed the torrent). I find 3D Downloads and sites of that type useless. First of all, being in China, the speeds are terrible, and secondly, should the connection cut out, as it is wont to do, I'll have to start over from the beginning. If I could use wget, or something similar to continue an aborted download, I could use 3D Downloads, but as I can not it is useless to me. So I am without the newest release of FFH2, alas.

Say "yes" to Bittorrent!

p.s. grumpylad, thanks for putting the torrent up, though it seems it will take approximately forever for me to download.

I'd like to second the call for an alternate distribution method. The release sizes are completely out of hand for anyone without broadband, which still describes a significant number of people.

The only problem with 3D downloads is that their servers don't support resuming. I don't care about waiting a couple of days to get v0.22 (weighing in at ~340MB now) but when I can't resume the download, it's literally impossible for me to play FFH. This has always been a problem. The only way I've been able to play FFH at all has been thanks to BCalchet's generous offer to host releases (thanks again!).

I asked why there are no incremental releases a few months back (ie, a v0.21 -> v0.22 patch) and was told they're not being considered. I don't understand why, as it blocks some people from being able to test/enjoy the latest version of the game. I still want to know if hawks can be gifted Orthus' axe in v0.22 like they could in v0.20...

If incremental releases are too much of a pain to prepare (a 'diff' tool would make it easy), how about making split/chunked releases of 50-100MB per part? Given the rate at which release sizes are increasing, this could very well become necessary before long even for broadband users. A monolithic file could still be released for those who are able to download it.

It's still chugging away at the moment as I mentioned earlier anyone that already has the .22exe file just needs to drop it into their torrent folder and download the above .zip. They'll immediately start to seed.

Torrents are a community thing the more that seed the quicker the speed ;)

I'll leave my system just seeding this one torrent for the reminder of today that should give it a boost

I finally got it. I'll keep seeding it whenever I happen to have my computer on and a Bittorrent client open, which is much too often.

Sorry to revive an old topic, but I'm more or less in the same boat Thenn is/was in with the lack of resume keeping me from possibly being able to play the game.

At the moment I'm on dial-up, and stuck with it until I head back to school in a couple months, with no "local" friends I can readily call upon to get this done. If worse comes to worse, I can find someone to download and mail it to me, but that just seems a bit... overkill.

Sadly, I'm guessing 3d Gamers and Gamershell are the only sites with up to date versions (I've looked around and what's the chance I'm lucky enough to simply have missed one), and the torrent is not really agreeing with me. ^^:

So, just to make sure (since I really want to try this out, and I'm kicking myself for not playing Civ4 much until this summer, despite buying it and Warlords at release >.<) that there isn't another option out there somewhere with resume capabilities (or even one with the file itself broken down into multiple parts).

Thanks. =\

I can tell you from a key point of view that running utorrent and downloading torrents doesn't eat up my bandwidth greatly because I've set it to limits, so I can happily go to websites and play (non-fps) games online without a huge latency issue.

Also when I close utorrent (which I'll do after 150% seed :)), it will not continue to pester me at all. I've tried your program and after trying some torrents from mininova.org, isohunt.com and a few others I've noticed no suspicious activity.

I'd honestly check what websites you got your torrents off, what trackers you used and the program you were using, as well as your pc...sounds like something else is dodgy.
