Before anyone mentions it, yes I know that the shield cuts into one of the spider legs in some of the animations . I intend to correct this but am looking for feedback first on how. My thought was to re-scale the shield, but even then there are some animations where her left arm just clears the leg. She is making a blocking action, so I also thought to replace it with a main gauche (parrying dagger) or a buckler.

Any thoughts? Ideas welcome :)

I don't know, how obvious is it ingame? Many custom models here have some kind of intersection - my elf spearmen, for example, have their hands sticking partway through the shield, but that's no big deal since it's not visible ingame even at highest zoom.
Did you do this lady yourself or was she already in civ4?

She was a Spider Rider unit but not a drider. This was a totally new experiment for me and I was not sure it would work. Using my goblin spiderrider as a base (because I knew it would work in-game without mesh problems like many units seem to have), I pasted her body into place over the existing goblin mesh and skeleton and then deleted the goblin. Once that was done I had to move the rider's bones and her mesh forward and re-scale them by about 1.3x (otherwise it would look like a tiny person stuffed on a huge spider). Then I deleted her mesh up to the torso, stretched her torso vertices into place and edited the .dds files to streamline the image. Once that was done and she looked good in Blender, I exported her to .nif, .dbx, and .br2 and began importing the goblin spiderrider animations. I wasn't sure if they would work or not because I had moved and re-scaled some of the bones but the animations worked like a charm. I was pleasantly surprised. :)

Now that I know I can do that, it has given me some ideas about how to do some other crazy things.... :mischief:

I saw that:cringe:. Maybe if you did something like this Drider with a knight or something you'd have more luck than with custom animations. Chop head off horse-legs off human-reshape meshes to fit better-move knight forward a bit. Then you'd have a human torso swinging a sword on top of a horse body....isn't that a centaur:D?

Actually, that is what I was initially thinking when I made my comment here - but I tried to go the easy route using an existing Civ IV unit. Looks like I have no choice now :shake:; the good news is that it will use Civ V animations if I can pull it off! :)
