The DVD player on my laptop isn't working for some reason. It spins around and all that but it doesn't read the DVD. It's weird because it's a CD/DVD player and the CD part works fine. I don't know if this is a common problem or not or even if anyone will be able to help me. But, is there anything I can do to fix it? Is it even possible to fix it?

Have you tried other DVD's in it? If its just that one DVD that doesnt work, then its not the player but rather the actual disk.

If when reading the CD works and the DVD doesn't, then I'd wonder if it wasn't actually an issue with drivers. Do you have the DVD maker's drivers installed, or are you using native Windows drivers?

I think its the Windows drivers. I haven't installed anything. I looked through Program Files and I see PowerDVD and RecordNow DX. Are they what you're talking about?

I was just curious if your particular drive came with an installation disk with proprietary drivers. Usually Windows drivers handle the CDROM/DVD drives ok.

Probably your first bet should be to see what kind of customer support you can get from the manufacturer's website, especially if they have any driver updates or technical notes about your specific model. Second step would be to see if Microsoft has any kind of documentation about your specific model of drive---sometimes weird conflicts singles out a specific model of device. Third step might be to investigate the DVD codec that your system uses, and you might want to consider changing to some other DVD codec. If all else fails, it may be a mechanical/electronics problem so use the warranty to it's fullest.
