I was just curious if your particular drive came with an installation disk with proprietary drivers. Usually Windows drivers handle the CDROM/DVD drives ok.
Probably your first bet should be to see what kind of customer support you can get from the manufacturer's website, especially if they have any driver updates or technical notes about your specific model. Second step would be to see if Microsoft has any kind of documentation about your specific model of drive---sometimes weird conflicts singles out a specific model of device. Third step might be to investigate the DVD codec that your system uses, and you might want to consider changing to some other DVD codec. If all else fails, it may be a mechanical/electronics problem so use the warranty to it's fullest.
