DX9 quit opening, but DX11 opens every time

I have been playing Civ5 since Christmas (maybe 20 times). Starting about a week ago, it sometimes takes 50-100 attempts to get it to run with DirectX 9. If I select DX10/11 it opens every time. Unfortunately my video card doesn't support DX11 so it quickly freezes.

I am running Windows 7 32 bit, Core 2 Duo @ 3.0 GHz, 4 Gigs Ram, and GeForce 8800 GTS. I played about 15 time with no problems.

A couple of times it seemed like the DX9 opened if I had just opened and successfully closed the DX11 program, but that could simply be superstitious.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling, clearing out the files from the cache, but still have the same situation.

Any thoughts?

I had a similar problem to you. I can't get 10 or 11 to start, I guess after reading your post it's because of the graphics card. Sometimes when I go to start 9 it won't even load. Usually though the most I have to try is 3 times to get mine to start. I can't imagine 50-100. I wish I had an answer for you. It makes me worried mine will start doing the same thing.
