Earth 1000 AD, How To Get A Perfect Start

I'm playing Spain now and I guess the trick is attacking Saladin for his African cities and then making peace and start a large European War with everyone attacking one guy (Basil or Frederick) while you settle in Afrika

Ok spain, france, japan are easiest masa inida are like the hardest What i think a stratige for russia is focus on haveing a good milatary if you plan to take out salidin or at least some milatry so byzatines dont woop you butt at least make peace with salidin then rush to calvery and get back in i did this recently in a 3rd russian gameand owend saldin bt then took over masa in africa then took spains north african teritories expanded west connected my empier fast made milatry took china and mongalia well whats left... lol and japan i also killed byzatines atound taking africa and mand i was happy : )

I started playing Russia on Immortal level a few days ago, and now I'm owning everyone. The key with winning with Russia is getting Cossacks which starts with 18 strength, and with proper civics and barracks I got 8 experience points to gain an additional 20% strength bonus... for a total of 21.6 strength. There's also the 50% bonus against mounted troops (eg. knights and calvaries). Once I gained 2 more experience points (after a battle) I got the 25% vs gunpowder units promotion, and I was invincible even against fortified riflemen and grenadiers. Thus the earliest possible match to my cossacks are tanks.

Having already done this prediction from the beginning, my focus was on getting military tradition and gunpowder fast while ******ing AI tech development. This would maximize the amount of time between I getting cossacks and AIs getting tanks.

In the first turn, I sent a horse archer east to make contact with the Mongols, Chinese, and the Indians. I started work on an oracle in Kiev and a longbowman each in the other 2 cities (to fend off Byzantine raids). I sent the settler to found a city north east of Kiev.

In terms of science, in the next few turns, I had my research at 0% and accumulated gold. I traded techs with everyone, starting with the least advanced civilizations (Mongols and Indians) until I gained a tech lead. I then researched civil service at 100% science. With the completion of the Oracle, I obtained Education, which allowed me to research Liberalism, which in turn gave me Economics and a great merchant. I sent the merchant on a trade mission to China, and along the trip I made contact with Japan. By this time France had just gotten Nationalism, and I traded all my techs + some money for that. I researched Gunpowder and finally got Military Tradition in 1655AD.

In terms of diplomacy, I made sure to never sign open border agreements with anyone except Saladin. By settling a second city to the north I gained access to Fur and completely blocked off the land route between Europe and Asia. This prevented the Europeans from expanding into Asia and trading techs with the East without going through me. Open border agreement with Saladin enabled a richer foreign trade as well as allowing his troops to more easily get to the Byzantines and Vikings. Because of Saladin's negative relations with everyone else, he would be not be trading techs with anybody.

In terms of military, I razed the closest Barb city and captured 2 additional barb cities using horse archers. When I got Iron, I built knights and tagged along Saladin's army invading the Byzantines. I let Saladin do the first couple attacks on each city while my knights did the city capturing. During the off times when Saladin's resting, I declared war on England who had Jerusalem at the time. Capturing Jerusalem boosted my income significantly (to enable 100% research), and I made peace with England soon afterwards.

In terms of economics, running at 100% reserach means I must obtain non-tax money. I got money from the aforementioned great merchant, capturing/razing byzantine, barb, and viking cities, selling techs and resources. I ended up with 4 horse resources which I sold to my future enemies since my cossacks would get 50% bonus against them. Since I did not rely on tax dollars, I didn't bother building money augmenting structures.

Once I got Military Tradition, I upgraded all my Knights and pumped out Cossacks with crazy forest chopping. Soon I was roaming through Europe and capturing all its cities. Since all the European cities have high cultural values, once the war started, all cities must be captured to avoid having cities surrounded by other cultures. The high population numbers and wonders propped me to the number one slot on the score list. Right now I'm still deciding what type of victory to go after.

The only problem I have now is that I had anticipated being able to bully the European countries into giving me their techs when I have them down to one city with just one catapult guarding it. However, the AIs seem to rather die than give me any tech. I wonder if it's because of the Immortal difficulty setting?

France is fun. Try your best to snag Jerusalem(yay for two shrines in one city) to boost your GNP for at least a little while, and snag Oracle easy with Industrious, and be amazed when Musketeers are actually not obsoleted 10 turns later! Go to town on Spain, and overpower the British and Germans with your superior French culture('cause you've been wonder-binging all those cheap leftovers from the classical age, right?). You even start with Notre Dame, for a nice, convenient happiness boost on the entirety of Eurasia. With Spain out the way, you may as well squish the English and start conquering the New World...or leave the Aztecs to lag in tech whilst you achieve domination over the other European nations...

Just finished a game with Spain where I barely passed Genghis Khan in the last few years to win by time :)

Pushed Saladin all the way back to Cairo before I declared peace, as the HRE had declared on Byzantium and were getting a little too strong. I took Constantinople and Greece from Byzantium, along with Visegrad. Unfortunately, the HRE's culture was too much for Visegrad and it soon flipped. At this point I had developed Galleons and made myself a nice colony, interestingly pretty much exactly where real-life Brazil is. Only France and England made New World colonies (Australia was a hodgpodge), France only in Iceland and Canada, and England in northern S. America and N. America.

After a few years of keeping to myself, I noticed Genghis getting very strong after ripping China to shreds. Being so far away from him, I figured the better decision would be to declare on Saladin again

In a surprising move (I had tanks and he had horsemen), Mansa Musa decided to delcare on me shortly thereafter. I took Cairo and sued for peace with Saladin, and proceeded to take out Mansa, even the cities buried in jungle. Meanwhile, in Iberia I continued to attempt to build wonders, going on a late-game spree with Hollywood, Mount Rushmore (in Constantinople), UN, and Eiffel Tower.

After taking out Mansa, there were 5 turns left and I was still behind Genghis. I attempted to make a stab at Mecca, but couldn't bring enough troops to bear in time. Luckily, I passed Genghis anyway with 3 turns left :king:

EDIT: Forgot to mention, France conquered Jerusalem in the Crusades and kept it for the rest of the game.

Ok i played game i havent finished it but im sorta behinde in tech cause when i saw astromy with 14 turns of reaserch but before i find is probaly the 2nd powerfulest in europe start off with the most knights te trick is conqure the arbian city in spain and the two on the african cost only after you conqure thoose you shold i started to settel in africa in hopeing of the oil cause with out it im doomed to thoose who have it after i got astromny i went to the new world with a shipment of a full galleon of conqustidors i saw chitza inta (however you spell it) was a barb city state i took it as a base on central america then i got a one shipment of my uu in there declare war aventaly took central america after i was done i notice monty hasent went down to 0 so i said to my self he went north east after i finnaly made a canal city on a ismuths to get to asia i finnaly took monty down i controled many cites in america not that useful except for a good cultral boost ive also captured athens and almost got calvery cause in beging they anyoed me cause i was more in a rush to take advantge of the new world i forgot to defened my cities except the ones i captured from saladin but i manged them im preparing to upgrade my conqestadors to the ca;very although beging to outdtae my army i stil rember the great usefulness they have been and think if you dont like japan as a perfect start well try spain it has the best start in europe i dont think any good start if you are monty and the incans cause youre only hope is not being at war with europeans or asians(c0astal) but my game hasent finished but i saved when i was abel to see oil i have one in africa one that im about to build a city near and one in the gulf so i hope i win lol

China is a quite easy one. However I only tried on noble level. I never lost any city to mongal or barb. The key was to move all available unit to the northern city to protect iron and the city at all cost. switched to slavery, and chop rush spearman.

You are going to take over korea with ease, and it will become one of the power houses in the north. Build more big cities in Seberia later.

Attack indo china with spikeman and gunpowder units. Don't take all 4 cities. Only take the first and the city with wonder. Once the area is under control move on to India, whom should be surviving under Saladin's pressure. The Holy city is good.

Attack mongal with sheer numbers. And expand throughout the Seberia now.

Find western countries, and trade with everybody except Aladin, because he was hated almost by everybody. That's not good for later tradings.

You'll hit calvary pretty soon. And crush Arab with ease. Then the game is basically over.

Don't worry about tibet. It can only add experience to your defensive units. And it's not worth occupying. Japan is an isolationist. Good cities but hard to get. When you have the extra power, it's normally too late. Make trade if you can.

The downside is all the original cities are so crowded and are wasted. You have to pick some to develop on the expenses of others. And I'd rather move capital to the northern city. It has more potential to grow.

Hey noob here tried saladin on monarch and a strategy i pieced together from alot of other peoples strategy's was after dealing with crusades and fortifying citiese around bzantine is to take 7-10 camel and catapults and take asianholycity benares and two chinese ones. troops easy toget camels already got oly need 2-3 catapults. by the way o.j did it

If anyone wins with india i want to know a stratigy for that lol cause its impossible.... lol

hey i resently started a game with the mongols well i took all of china with out asking for peace lol only bad part is barbariens you have to rebuild a defenive army fast!!! and thats basically what im going to do and take china leave the barbariens alone if they dont bother me much im thinking expand west take on saladin i donno if any got a better idea tell

last game mongols too instead of hitting i went the histoical route and hit saladin. Lost many keshiks but i just played to see if it would work and it don't

When I played mongols on mid-diffculty, I won't settle my city until i capture the first Chinese city. it's a better place for capital than the original place where mongols started.

Hey good idea

i played china,
- fist is to defend the nothern cities (i renamed in beijing :D)
- took mongolian capital and sue for peace (barbraries is set to crazy, so mongol can help keep the north calm)
- Pyongyang with the remainer of my northern army (THIS CITY END UP BEING THE MOST POWERFUL CITIES!)
- newly built unit form southern army to counter the asean threat (spearmen is a must against elephant unit)
- northern army send against tibet
- southern army took the 4 cities in asean
- built a new city at burma to guard the indian...
* prove to be a bad idea, indian culture too powerful (capital city with 2 founded religion!)
- to prevent flip, declared war.
- took over all but 1 cities (saladin got to it 1st)
- amazing india survive, build delhi at what is known as kashmir today (which happens to be partly ceded to china in real life).
- thought it was ironic, i allow them peace.

-----------------------------------
and with that, end of my early game
-----------------------------------

* next build harbin and beiyang to cover the north (so japan won't think about coming to the mainland)

* sleep until the industrial age while the european fight saladin.... mostly working on speading my religion, south for the south amercian but jewish beat me to the north thanks to french settlement in canada...

* japan found cities in brunei (1) and south africa (2). they became my allies; we share religion.

* i found that the constantinople was at war with me? (OMG! OMG! i didn't even notice the 2 extra civ until mid game -_-") i was too rich anyway and i needed to rank up my units so i when halfway around to asia minor...

- conquered turkey. built forbiden palace at constantinople.

* i now needed a suel canal to move move quickly... so i plot against germany holding israel and arab holding cairo. but did not act against them immediately.

* at turkey i found uranium; i suddenly notice my entire asian empire doesn't have any (what is wrong with this map? :p), i decide to secure a 2nd source, found australia.

* modern age, a massive fleet was build. 2 sub were send under the ice cap to map the poles. battleship takes the long route to constantinople, (stopping by japanese port in south africa to refuel. :p)

- took 2 australian cities, found another 3. (begun manhattan and apollo projects)

* german found city in philipines
* declared war on germany
- took philipines with 1 tank, 1 marine, 1 battleship, 2 bombers.

-------------------------
now struck here (ongoing)
-------------------------

any ideas on what to do next?

YEah hit japan good real estate but raze some cities so the others can get biger

I like trying to play as a european lol spain has the best start in erope sain has enugh knight to survive the recouesta and take tunis and tripoli then expand in africa alittel then build up coquestadors to take out aztecs then be fincial enough to be abel to upgrade quickly to go gunpowder army then take out anyone in europe heck given good enouggh strtical campgien take france germany britian russia byztines lol

I've played as France on that scenario, and I found it very easy. I managed to (mostly) peacefully dominate the world. At first, I took the Arab city in southern spain, and then took Jerusalem. Other than that I just settled two cities in the area of Russia and focused all my efforts on preparing to dominate the New World. I destroyed the Aztecs, and now have all of North and South America, and 3 cities in the fertile region of central Africa. This massive empire has enabled me to develop an army, and late in the game, I destroyed the minor civilizations of the Byzantines and the Vikings, and then the Spanish, and the English with my army of tanks. But for most of the game I avoided fighting.

lol. all i see in your peaceful game are wars.

i happened to start a french game last night, just opened it, not much in progress. i also took the southern spain city, and then the sicily. however, in mid-east, i re-route my army to egypt and took the easy target, and then the barb city to the south east. as a result, Jerusalem fell in to Byzantines' hand. then, i landed my remaining knights to north africa and with spanish forces' help took the other 2 remaining arab cities. i also transported my settler to nile to make it a tri-city area along the floodplain rich area.

the creative trait is helping me fighting against the heavy culture pressure from the "friendly" neighbors in the newly captured cities. the sicily city was going to fall to rome's culture attack when a great artist popped out. so, it's still in my hand and also helped the two north africa coastal cities in sea food supply. the southern spanish city was doing good on its own and push spanish to its limit.

on the homeland, i rushed oracle for gunpowder. but spanish demanded it. fine... she had a lot of military units staging at home while my army was stretching thin in the newly acquired the africa lands. then i got the 2 coastal wonders and doing good on fighting viking invaders.

now i'm looking for which way i should go. either rushing to cavalry, or start to build up army right now to attack either of my land neighbor. i wanted to take out spain but they have a stronger and ever growing army. :( so i used to world builder to take out her 2 cities, hmm... now my cities layout look way better. so, if i have a chance to take out spain, i'll simply raze those 2 cities. :D
