Earth based game?

I apologize if this is in the newbie's thread but I looked through most of the pages and couldn't find anything, and when I tried to search for the topic I was told the search engine was disabled by those crafty mods, so -

is there any way to start the game using an Earth map? I know that the game comes with two maps that claim to be Earth Maps, one standard and one huge, but every single time I have tried to play it, the map is not the Earth, and I should know - I live there.

Just to let you know, I am using the original copy of Civ III, no patches or upgrades, no downloads of any sort. So what is it that I am doing wrong, or is there no Earth map?

Welcome To CFC KingMattRoe!

You could have asked in the newbie thread but anyway...

Go to the scenarios. You will find it there.

Upgrade your game, buy PTW, upgrade it too and have fun!

There's earth maps in the Creation & Customization forum. User created maps.

Many thanks - and I apologize for not putting this in the newbies thread. I have now figured out that my game does have Earth Maps but that the nations don't start in the right positions. Is there any way to make sure they do?

he cant make the civs start in there spots because assigning starting locations is a feature on PTW thats not included on vanilla Civ3

This is not true. You can easily make civs appear in assigned locations using the editor that is included with Civ3.v1.29.

The key here is that the user needs to install the required patches to get the software up to Civ3v1.29 withoutbeing confused by artificial discussion of vanilla civ versus mocha civ.

The current out of the box software will not support the desired task but PTW is definately not required to solve the problem.

Here is a link to let you download the v1.29 patch:

download free v1.29 patch and editor (9.9 MB)
