Will there ever be downloadable content like maps? Especially I'd really like an Earth map with correct starting locations and the ability to choose your opponent civs...

I hope so. I've always enjoyed playing earth maps in other versions of civs.

However, not sure how well it'd work in civ rev. The map size is always pretty small, and you always have 5 civs max (in single player) so you'd the french and germans (for example) basically starting on top of each other.

It could have set in stone Civs, with the Aztecs and Americans on North America, South America empty, Romans on Europe, Zulu on Africa, and Chinese on Asia. Australia empty.

And the map size is never too small, I quite like this duel size Earth map I downloaded.

That map looks pretty nice and I certainly would play it.

However, it doesn't quite give what tim was asking for, mainly the ability to pick your own civs with accurate start locations. Because of the small map size, alot of civs can't be played at the same time in their correct starting locations due to limited map size.

Still, very nice looking map

well even with 5 civs you could have a balanced game: either have 5 european/mediterranean civs real close to each other or distribute 1 civ per continent.

as much as i would love real world locations - it might be difficult to implement on a small map. even with the civ 4 one attached on this thread, forget how bad it is for the european civs, even btw the americans/aztecs, egypt/zulu, or china/mongolia - the distance would only be a few tiles apart.

Ideal would be a World map with 5 randomized players (in their historic start positions, the random part being which 5 civs are picked, a well as resources/barbs)

just put in a rule that prevents civs that are two close ie (Spain/France/Germany/Greece/Rome)
and give everyone an immobile "Palace Guard" attack 0, defense 1, Move 0

Is it just me that thinks the Map Zoom and Pan feature is crappola ?, I cannot zoom-out and pan without some serious roller coaster nauseating effects, and it doesn't really provide a decent overview of the surroundings. On more than one occasion I have had a city overrun because I couldn't locate the enemies city with that crappy zoom so that I could send my tanks over. I HATE THE MAP PAN.....

If you want an Earth map and other features found in the PC version, then you'll have to play the PC versions of Civ. Rev will never be updated to included those features according to 2K.

Rev is what is it right now. They'll give us some patches and scenarios, but it will be the same game you have right now. Nothing more, nothing less.

Which is too bad, as I cannot afford the loads of spare time required to play the PC versions (I own all 4)

With 2 kids and a wife and a job and having to catch some sleep in between CivRev was the ideal solution to spend some quality Civ time with my PS3.

But I'm really a historic Earth map player - I hardly ever played any civilization game on a random map... It's just a lot more fun recreating our history on our planet and seeing how the same world ends up all differently :)

I agree with you, tim staes. I've used the Earth maps quite a bit, too. I've even modified them with civs to start in their proper locations, playing each civ to see how it pans out. But they do tend to be longer games, which is precisely why we will never see this feature in Rev.

Hardcore Civ players look to the PC versions I-IV. Rev does not necessarily appear to be aiming for that particular audience, even though many of us longtime Civ fans have consoles and are giving Rev a good shot.

An earth map would be nice, but I don't think you'll ever see accurate starting positions.

I would love to have an earth map. It is a very fun scenario. However, if the map size is too small, maybe they could have continent maps instead. That would also be fun, as there could be europe, euroasia, euro-asia-africa, north/south america, etc.

A battle of the continents on a low scale earth map would be cool: one civ on each continent, 1 for europe, 1 for africa, 1 for asia, 1 for n.america and 1 for s.america!

If they do ever make an Earth map, Egypt would dominate it. With all of that desert close together, Egypt would easily be the most dominant civ on it.

Well Egypt would also have

1. The Arabs nearby
2. The Zulus close enough to rush them (Zulus with lots of Grasslands and Forests around
3. a lack of Production (no Forests in th sahara... maybe a few hills.)

Japan would do just as well since it has all that water nearby

Russia would have a lot of plains and production

There is an Earth map - it's part of the Terrestrial map pack. It's on Xbox Live Marketplace, dunno about PS3.

It's interesting, but the civs are still randomly distributed. I was the Germans and started in North America.

The map packs only 100 Microsoft Points - depends where you live as to how much real money that is.

I've heard on Revolution for the PS3 there is downloadable wonders and maps and I can't find out how to download anything. Please tell me if you know. Thanks

Please answer and I don't know what this Quick Reply is

Thare is not a Civ for S.America. Thare should be though I don't who it would be. Maybe Incas
