I think this is a great scenario. I've won with a few of the civs: France, HRE, Arabia, Japan, Byzantines.

What do you think of this scenario and what are your stratergies?

I really like the game, espescially with the byzantines. they seem incredibley poewrful, and have awesome cities. When I play them, I send all of my Catras to Jerusalem and take it. If someone else takes it, declare war. Next I split the cats between Cairo and the med, and Baghdad and the east. I leave the Arab penninsula alone, because it doesn't have that great of cities, nad mecca is too well defende. Once I've conquered Cairo, Jerusalem, Baghdad, and all of the eastern cities, I make peace, usually with captipulation. I spam wonder in my coore cities, and start making lots of cats. I then send them north to take a always weak russia. From there, the Vikings are easy to defeat. After that, I'll take whatever civ i feel like.

As the vikings, my second favourite civ. I try and make peace with evryone but England. I take Dublin, and send my other berserkers to capture workers and pillage. I usually soak up the emenmy attacks until I have city raider 3. Take England, thensettle down for building a navy. Once you have alarge enough army, invade France. Through the course of the game make Russia your friend, as they are the only land route to you. MAke sure they will cancel deals with people you are at war with to prevent attacks on you. From France, take the rest of the continent, and peacfully settle America while conquering the Aztecs.

I'm playing a game as the Byzantines now. I sent my Cataphracts into arabia and took over all their cities except the 3 furtherest east. Samarkand, Ghanzi and Nishapur. After that I invaded HRE and then France. All with Cataphracts. In 1400AD I invaded Spain with Cavalry then I started industrialising. At 1700AD I invaded Russia with tons of Infantry and then paratroopers and fighters. They are nearly subdued and I'm about to airdrop 20 or so paratroopers into england against their 6 redcoats. Both Mali and India became my vassels peacefully.

Played it as Byzan, took out most of Arabia in the course of three wars before they cap'ed to me, I had left them most of Iran.

Sent Caravels to the new world and converted Monty to Christianity and gave him alot of techs for free for or for gold in order to butter him up and to help keep any europeans from colonizing too much. Now he will do what ever I want. :D

Abotu the time I got rifling I attacked India, which triggered a world war with most of the world against me. First India became a protectorate of Russia (who was my 2nd best friend in the game till this point), Mongolia and shortly afterwards China joined the fight. Then France and the Holy Roman Empire declared war. Through it all I took out most of India (they were spared with an out of way city), held off China's feeble attacks, conquered French West Africa (including Versillia) and a few worthless Holy Roman colonies in west Africa.

Just as the fighting was dieing down with me making peace with most of my enemies, Spain and their Mali vassel declared war. Excepted for their far away colonies in southern Africa, the only places I could fight Spain was by declaring war with other civs to pass throught their lands (which I did with the holy rome in order to send ships). Didn't want to attack Mali since I wanted to send my forces to this area in central (real) russia that Spain had managed to carve out a little empire by taking some barbarian cities. That and I wanted to focus on building up my cities some more after fighting a massive war with russia india and france. So my central asia Spanish invasion failed, thou I did raze one city. I did manage to get Monty to terrorize Spanish North America, and even amanaged to take a few of their cities, with 3/4 of north america being Aztec now.

I stopped playing since my computer was having a heart attack in the modern age. I was researching Fission and was also ready to work on Rockety. Wasn't sure if I wanted nukes myself or to get the non-prolife pact signed, but the French who were in charge of the UN didn't seem interested in a non-prolife pact.

I had controlled all of the Middle East, India, and Northwestern Africa and Western Africa. Iran was my Vassel.

Yeah. Byzantines get it really easy.

At the moment, in my game as the Byzantines, I control all of Europe, Africa and the Middle East. My vassels; Mali, India, Khmer (peaceful), Russia, England, Spain (Capitulation). Under my control is Europe, Africa, half of Asia and a slice of America which I am invade with tanks, fighters and paratroopers against Monty's Longbowmen and Knights. I think I will try for a domintion victory.

^ I played the Vanilla version as each of the civs, and won(real hard with the Aztecs, Incans, Mali, and Arabs)

General problem is the Europeans rushing to space.. they have a low difficulty, so unless you are one of them you have to either
a) crush them before they get their massive tech lead (and you can balance it with your massive Empire)
b) get a PA with one (if you enable that)
c) get the Internet*

* Was easier in Vanilla

b)+c) are pretty much required if you are one of the Americans or Africans
Asians can go for a) because they start in an OK position, geographically and technologically.

Really looking forward to playing it with Vassals

I've just started this scenario and enjoy it immensely. :) However, how do you conquer Jerusalem as the Brits. By the time I've fought off Ragnar in the early stages, it's too late to send an army of sufficient size to the Holy City because Justinium has been sniffing around already and is next door to the city in any case. When I'v got an army of sufficient size sorted and on route to Jerusalem, the Byzantines have conquered it!. Now, to take the city off Justinium and still have sufficient troops to garrison it, particularly against his Cataphracts is logistically too much to ask. Am I missing something (probably a brain, I know) I guess that an early strike on the city whilst Saladin is still in charge is going to be the answer but with what. I'm sure you guys out there will have more than one answer. I'll be interested to hear them.

Just wondering, but can one of you post a link to the BTS version? I enjoyed the Vanilla scenario immensely, and the ability to play as the Byzantines would be nice...
But in Vanilla, play as Tokugawa. Build the Oracle in the northern city, and chop a forest to help it. Grab Liberalism from it, then use the free tech to get Gunpowder. Mass Muskets in Galleys to conquer the Khmer area, then move either west or north and help Saladin in India/Khan in China.

Found it! Man, I feel dumb!
Just played as the Vikings. Luck was on my side and Dublin and England fell in 12 turns. Made peace, but tech trading is so hard! Holy crap, Louis XIV wanted 30 Gold, Metal Casting, Compass, and Drama for Feudalism! Thankfully, a Great Spy popped in London due to the Courthouse there, which I put into Constantinople. Then 2 Spies stole Guilds and Divine Right. Pretty sweet. Peter DoWed on me for some reason, but didn't send any troops. I'm still playing, but the English industrial centers could pull me to a Space Race, as long as I get some research up..

Just search the scenarios... BtS brings a updated version of it ;)

BTW There are 2 versions of Earth 1000AD. Other than addition of 3 more
civs, is there any difference between them at all?

I'm in the middle of a Mongolia Game...
Somehow, playing as Khan is a ton easier than in the Civ4 version. I split the Settler stack into two groups of 1 Worker, 1 Settler, and 1 Archer. The rest of the units there went south. All units went to China, with the exception of the eastern Keshiks (5), that went to Korea. Korea fell in about 3 turns, since Wang Kon's units are lacking. This puts you into contact with Japan. China can be stormed very quickly. I had to build 2 Catapults to capture the Confucian Holy City, but the rest came down fast. Qin keeps 4 Workers in a stack down south, so I sent 5 Keshiks there. Captured the Workers, then split the Keshiks one at a time. 3 cities had only an Archer, so they fell. The others were on hills and had Cho-Ko-Nus protecting, so the Catapults bombarded, then did collateral until Keshiks could come from the rest of the cities to capture them. It worked quite well. Suryavarman is more concerned with the Barbs, but I managed to capture Pagan and the Shewdaygon Paya. I couldn't do much to Surya because of his Ballista 'Phants, but Pagan put me into copntact with Asoka. Techtraded with him, got a World Map and Open Borders. I'm currently near contact with Saladin and Peter. Because of China's land potential, I'm thinking about a Space Race. I'd have to wait for Galleons and/or Trebs to take TOkugawa...
